Cleaning a panel filter

Obviously you can get a kit, but any reason why you can't clean with water and say use wd40 to spray on after as the oil?

the filter oil isnt usually water solvent so it wont wash out

as wd40 as a retension oil - it may not be compatable with say k&n cotton filters and also it will not hold as much "muck" as the thicker genuine filter oil - it will also run and drip off the filter and not stay in position either

always cleaned my bike filters with a little petrol and then washing up liquid and oil it with green oil or air tool oil

i got a pipercross kit with my filter so just use that while ive got it

I'll just get a kit. Just thought it might be a bit of a gimmick if you could use a silicone spray or something similar!

Having come from motocross background I am a freak for cleaning air filters. on the bikes its like a mythical procedure. Lads take pride in getting the tackiness just right without using too much. I was going to swop my itg over to use notoil that i but bought the itg kit and was impressed also the aerosol oil is great even used it on the bike a few times.
Point being clean until your bored sideways then get a good cover but don't over oil as it bogs the bikes down noticeably.

Never oiled mine, it still feels oily to the touch and just brush any crap out with a small hand brush. Didn't think the ITG needed oiling?

Oh dear  have you got the stuff to do it? :innocent:

need to look not sure if its all been used

the filter does hold a lot of "dust" which you cannot readily see - when i did mine it was like fine grit/dust that washed out of it - it had been in for like 4yrs :innocent:
