Cambelt, sadly its my turn

Good Morning All,

Having read a few rather old threads on cambelts, im looking at going down the "buy parts myself" route.

What's the latest with regards to doing this, do we have any site sellers etc who can recommend/quote?

I'm in the Yorkshire area so will likely give the parts (and car) to Renault Wakefield/Pontefract depending on whos cheaper.

Thanks
Ross

Paid memebers on here get a discount on parts from a dealership. For the £12 membership fee it's well worth it as I've just had a quote for the same parts and it was atleast £100 cheaper than Renault via your local dealer.

Our local Renault dealer would, only thing they said was that it has to be Guenuine Renault parts for them to guarentee any work.

Best to check first though.

Mines due too, I'm having it done at queen street services (renault sport specialist) in hunslet/leeds they'll do it in the day and quoted £430, not a bad price and they use renault parts too

i have recently joined the forum so i can get update on the rs200 before i take the plunge and buy one. interested to see the post on sourcing parts and who to use to get the cambelt change done. what are the issues re the change i have in the past done a number of changes on williams motors without any probs apart from it being a tight working space. be interested in any comments

Well a quick update, its now booked for a local garage on 6th May (same as Tom on this forum whos just had his done there).
£350 which is based on a brand called "Gates", as far as i have read on this forum, Gates are one of the best. Renault also have 3 approved cambelt suppliers..one being Gates so its pretty much Renault parts. Also a few other posts i came across on the none Clio Forums suggest Gates are better than most of the OEM suppliers anyway so hopefully it will go well.

If im following this post up in 3 weeks time with a broken Clio then i'll know reading this forum was a mistake

Tom hasnt had any issues with his so hopefully its in good hands.

I had Gates put on mine. (3rd party dealer) The belt started to slip about 9 months after it was done, and I had to have the whole lot done again.

hmm never thought of killing myself before till i read this. #facepalm :worried:

How could you tell it was slipping? Noise...feel of car etc? Forgive my ignorance with most things mechanical
I am dreading it but we'll see, im assuming you got some form of warranty from the garage who did it etc so did they take care of it?

Nah. I got mine done from the car dealer who sold the car to me, they were just useless. I took it to a proper RS specialist second time round.

You can tell its slipping because it squeals at you.

I'm not going to tell you what to do with your own money, but you bought a performance car that requires performance parts. You can't expect it to be cheap. Get it done properly first time. You'll probably never have to get it done again, so its worth spending that little extra for peace of mind.
