Brakes!

Ive always thought the cups brakes just lacked that propper punch, so just ordered some ds2500's, braided lines, 2 sets of retaining pins and some motul 660!

anything else I should do at the same time?

Get some harnesses cos with that little lot you'll be kissing the windscreen when you stamp on the brakes..

Brilliant, just what i wanted to hear!!! Wont be fitting them till after xmas (present from the mrs) so may need new disks by then, what would be the best way to go?

The brake set up we have can be brilliant.

I was fortunate to get some passenger laps in a race clio cup car at donington a few weeks ago and the brakes on those were amazing.

Same calipers and discs as ours but with better fluid, braided lines and some (ferrodo) race pads.

(They also have slicks/sequential box and no ABS which helps :blush:hmy:smile:

The Motul 660 and DS2500 will improve braking endurance but not reduce stopping distances. That is a common misconception.

The DS2500 has a similar friction coefficient to OEM pads. They give you no more torque than most OEM pads at an average of 0.42. Where you gain is in higher temperature fade resistance. Same with the Motul 660 fluid and the high 325 Deg C dry boiling point compared to a normal DOT 4.

Braided lines do very little apart from very, very small reduction in system fluid compression under load and better under body/arch flexible line feed damage resistance. Decent pads, discs and fluid are the first priorities.

Ferodo pad coefficients below:

most of that is way over my head, but cheers eitherway! lol!

Roughly what's the cost in that set up mate? You don't have to go in to specifics but I just want to keep it in mind as mine are feeling a little spongey.

£165 - DS2500 Pads (F&R) - Demon Tweeks Group Buy
£65 - HEL Hoses - HEL Online
£40 - Brembo Pins - Karl
£30 - Fluid - Opie Oils

That's roughly going off what the Pins cost me last time and what rough current prices are depending on where you go for the parts...

I won't need the pins, running the "Mr.Pink" ones now. Ill check my pads but in fairness they aren't that old, I do like the idea of a stiffer pedal so the fluid and lines will more than likely be done the next time something brake related comes up.

Ta for the info Willis.

No probs mate.

What you reckon to those Pins? Prefer them over the normal ones?

I'm the same, that group buy is a ridiculous price but my Pads have plenty of meat left at the moment so I can't justify it this close to Christmas. The Hoses can be had in all manner of colours and patterns too by the way, if you were that way inclined. You want the Stainless fittings and not the Zinc plated ones, so watch out for that when choosing a set. Most companies offer both with the Zinc usually a bit cheaper...

I didn't put them in mate so can't really comment, took a look around them before they went in (wanted to check quality before I put them on the car) and seemed good. I had a local Renault specialist fit them for me as after several house of tw@tting my old ones with a bloody big hammer and a combo of brake cleaner and WD40 I gave up and took the car to them for cutting out, only when I picked it up they told me they came out first hit!!!.... I must've loosened them

TBH the standard renault ones are fine. changed my pads twice now since iver had the car and they are on the same pins, cover them in copper grease job done!

I'd say they're fine once your on top of them and they're cleaned regular. Mine were originals and had never been changed or cleaned. They'd done 20k miles at least before I tried to take them out.
