Brake Compensator????

Well basically I put my car in for its mot and service in my local Renault. It failed on the "rear brake compensator", they basically said that it was seized and they could strip and clean it to pass it! (It didn't just fail on that but that's a different story)

i have now took the car as a fail as I had to sort the other issue out anyway, I will be doing the brakes on Sunday but to be honest I don't know what am looking for! I know vans have compensators for loads but didn't know cars did to! Would I be best just stripping the whole rear brakes down and greasing and cleaning them up?

Any help is appreciated, Chris

Are you sure they didn't say it was the brake balance front to rear?

Sounds like they want to strip and clean the brakes.

What car is this on? I know the compensators cause issues on the 172 cups but I've not heard of anything on the 197's.

Do the 197's even have one?

nope! part of the abs/esp system - brake force distribution...

only "compensator" is for the handbrake cables but that's inside the car...

are you sure its not due to "imbalance" across axles on the brake efficiency test?
