Are recaros really worth the trouble

Ive always liked recaros, Ive had them in a lot of my cars right back to my first Mk2 Escort RS 2000!

I like the look of them in the Clio and they would have been on my spec if I move on to a 200.....But they seem to be very troublesome in the Clio with various problems inc, wearing out of bolster at low miles, clicking, cracking, not locking into place, too high, difficult to live with. They certainly look strange when the door is open, as if they have been fitted on top of a milk crate!!

So apart from them looking quite nice are the standard sport seats a better proposition as a daily driver?

My drivers seat has done 65k and has no issues. It's never been repaired, doesn't squeak and moves freely.

I genuinely can't see how people manage to ruin them in so few miles!

I had an r27 with the recaros, now ive an ag 200 with the standard rs seats

I personally would not pay any extra for the recaros and to be honest there not as comfy as the standards. day to day use, standards all day long, i was forever worrying about the recaros marking them getting in and out, over priced, over rated and poorly made imo, only plus side is they look good in the clio, as for the "support" no more or no less than the standards, if my clio had them when i bought it, bonus, but wouldnt pay extra for them

Recaros maketh the Clio.. Yes sometimes they wear a bit but they look bang on and provide the right level of support.

I bought the car to have fun in not worry about whether something is going to wear our it fail. As an option they are definitely not overpriced. I paid about 1k for the Recaros as an option but brand new from Recaro they are 1300 each...

I had a 197 with out recaros then changed too a FF200 Cup with recaros and would NOT be with out them as Angel said they make the car

As above really. They make the car and really lift the interior in my opinion. I've no real issues now the drivers ones fully bolted down nice and tight.

Yep, that's me! Didn't see this on here, only noticed it on cliosport.

Excellent service from Steve with this so far.

Was it your passenger seat that was repaired?

Yes I've had the passenger seat repaired due to the way my wife was getting in/out after her stroke. As I said, drivers has done 65k with no issues.

A simple question would have sufficed, no need for the quotes to try and catch me out. I can provide before/after pics if needed?

I didn't buy my car with Recaros, just because I didn't do my homework and find out the best spec. Standard seats are still sporty and did a decent job on holding you in place. Personally I really liked the embroidery on the headrest etc, but they aren't exactly the centre of attention.

I bought Recaros because they are special. Could be a bit of snobbery with the brand, a bit like having a Brembo braking set up over a standard 2 pot calliper, but they always get a comment from anyone that sits in the car. Everything from 'these seats are weird' (from the missus lol) to 'wow these seats really hug you!'. Personally, I've found no wear on mine at all in the 20k miles I've had them - just watch you don't sit on the bolsters. They do a great job, and make the car special to drive, even when I use it as a daily drive.

As for the high driving position, I've had both and didn't notice much of a difference between either seat - they're both ridiculously high!

The option price was a bargain, and these seats are well worth £1k for a mint set IMO.

Was'nt trying to catch anyone out, i remember seeing your seat before repair.

TBH i thought/seemed to think your base had been changed over as i remember talking about it with you.

There were never any 'after' pics in steves thread.

Yes we chatted about swapping them over, so I could minimise the damage being done to it. However I decided it would just be better to get it repaired. She doesn't go in my car much now she has her own, so it should stay good as new.

This is true, even on the lowest setting they are high. Guess I've got used to it now so I wouldn't go lower now, I love the driving position.

When I first got the car I wanted them much lower but funnily enough I saw a VW coming towards me on Saturday. It had the usual mods, slammed, over streched tyres and a little peanut head barely poking above the steering wheel. This further reinforces why I don't want them any lower.

Lol! Got used to it too, but they are high! Most of my mates are 6ft+ so means their head pokes the headlining, and they can see sweet nothing if the visors have to come down :tongueout:

So if you're a skinny midget, Recaro's are a no brainer

I was all up for finding a clio that had them, but when I actually viewed a couple with recaros i changed my mind, just didn't suit the car, they don't look right in there to me, way too big, don't match the rest of the interior and look a bit "max power" to me....

When I was looking for my 197 I refused to look at any without Recaros.

I think they really make the car and sets the car aside from other hatches.

Alot of people feel this way I think, so they are a good investment for a quicker resale.

I don't think size as anything to do with it iam 16 stone rugby player and love my Recaros on track days they are so much better than std seats Re had std seats in my197
