Air-Con Service Query

Anyone ever had their air-con serviced on a 197. Mine has started going not as cold, as before - heard all the talk of getting it re-gassed or refilled. But just wondering what exactly needs doing?

Thanks in advance

if done correctly they will -

vacuum out the old gas and oil and separate it (so it can be measured/cleaned)

then measure out and pump in the required amount of gas and oil and sometimes with a leak tracer dye as well

then job should be a good one - can take an hour(ish) to do

I phoned up a garage the other day that specializes in French cars.

And they quoted £36 if i remember correctly for just a recharge

And £70 something for something else which i can't remeber what it entailed.

Not much help i know haha

cheers mate, any idea how much i should be looking at for this job?

from about £40 upwards some renault garages do have it on offer

you dont really what a place just to squirt a bit of gas in - you should have it done correctly - the air-con gas carries the lubricating oil for the compressor so it really needs measuing correctly if its lost some gas/pressure

had mine done at work (i couldnt do it myself as not certified to use the equipment) but it is a lot colder now

ive just been 2day and had it regased at kwik fit and there useless.
second 197 and havent owned a 197 with aircon working.
Pissssssssssssssseddddd.

Take look at the compressor clutch or compressor itself.

I had the problem with the clutch - had it replaced and it was OK later. Expensive, but it works now.

what do i look for and how do i kno ifs it faulty?

IF you HAVE the necessary amount of gas in the system when you switch ON your AC you should hear the compressor plug in (and you should feel the rev changing) - if that doesn't happen, then there's some problem with the compressor.

BUT - if the compressor does turn on when you switch your AC on then it could be a valve in the compressor (I had also this problem because the one in the new/used compressor that I bought wasn't good ).

And the third but not the last thing - the pressure regulator (presostat in Croatian) can also be the source of failure. It's the cheapest solution - maybe if you start with that and work your way up?

also the engine cooling fan runs at low speed if the system is working when the compressor clutch clicks on/in
