225's anyone?

Yesterday I popped into my local dealer to see the Clio 200, and there was a Megane there on Clio 'multi-spoke' wheels with 225/45/17 tyres.
Which got me thinking...

Has anyone fitted 225/45/17 Tyres to their Clio 197?

I got quotes for Tyres, and 215's are **DOUBLE** the price of 225's.

Tyre 1: 225/45/17V

Tyre 2: 215/45/17V

Tyre 3: 215/40/17W/Y/Z

All these are fully fitted prices from black circles.com

edit: Bloody links don't work!! how come when i copy paste 3 different links into 3 different "insert link" dialog boxes i get the same one!!

Any ways, the cheapest was 215/40/17W/Y/Z. the most expensive was the 225 wide tyre.

I'm in South Africa, and the only car here that uses 215/45/17 is the Clio 197.

225/45/17 & 205/40/17 are very common and used on a variety of cars, so thats why they so much cheaper.

I was just wondering if they upset the balance? or if the higher (+4.5mm) sidewall affects the handling?

ah, okay. I saw that that your were from SA but thought i'd have a look anyway.

What sort of prices are tyres down there?

Our range of tyres is a little limited.
215/45/17 are between R 2800-R 3200 each (225-260 UKPound)
225/45/17 are about R 1300 (105 UKPound)
