I had a new gearbox last year and this one's not feeling so good now so i decided to take all the worry away. The 197 got traded yesterday as it's been getting a drain on the wallet with a few repairs needed lately. Come to the stage where i'll be pleased to see the back of it tbh.

I had a couple of Hancook v12 evo's put on the rear to replace the 'well used' conti 5s on the rear the other day . done about 120 miles on them now but feel that the 197 is not as good ,i have to correct the steering all the time on sharpish bends,where as before it was just point and shoot ...

Hi My heater blower has packed up on number 4 . Is there anything obvious I can check myself like a fuse or relay or is it a garage jobbie? Cheers phil PS 1, 2, and 3 work ok

My xenons auto leveling has been playing up for a while now so i popped down to a renault service centre near me for them to have a look. I was expecting to have to pay out for a sensor or something but they found the problem was that the main dealer up the road that changed my gearbox last...

Mines an 08 so the belts should be due in april at 5 years. I phoned my local renault service center to get a price and they came back to me to ask the milage which i told them was 50k. They then said that there is no need to have them done this year and will be needed next year at year 6...

I think i've sorted them i gave both sensors a good dousing with WD40 and they seem to have sorted themselves out. The back one was very dirty and i think it was seized up. Not moved about at all for a couple of weeks now,worth a try mate.

Hi chaps Can anyone tell me if you unplug the xenon leveling sensors do you lose the main beam position? Mine are playing up now and again like going skywards and then downwards,they level up ok when first switched on but sometimes do this when driving and i'm getting flashed now and again...

I would be inclined to take it to the dealer then mate. Get them to test drive it.I took mine to the dealer to be told there wasn't a problem but 6 months later 4th syncro went belly up.So get them to log your concerns. You have warranty so if the box is dodgy they will change it no...

These boxes do take a while to loosen up i had a new one about Easter time and its only just started feeling good after 8k Is it an audible crunch?

Box changed at 41k after 4th syncro went Now on 48k and the new box is sweet as.

Just come back from the test drive and all i can say is thay the clio is now staying with me. Sometimes you don't realise what you have got. sod the money phil

1.6 petrol and it's an 08 mk6.5 only done 26k my 197 is an 08 now on 46k after a new gearbox and a few expensive problems i have decided enough is enough with the clio

Well the time has come for the 197 to go i think. Been looking for something a bit cheaper to run due to the miles i have to do. So tomorrow im having a look at a fiesta zetec s 1.6 Not sure weather i can do it but a test drive will help me make my mind up we shall see Phil

Does anyone know when the syncros were changed to a one piece? I had a new gearbox at eastertime and was wondering if mine would be a box with the 'improved' 4th gear syncro just for peace of mind really. Cheers phil
