Also, what kind of a whine is it? Is it constant? Or is it when you let off the throttle at high rpm? If the second one, "they all do that," but it helped mine greatly by replacing the gearbox oil with the recommended Elf oil.

I went for the Elf NFJ GL4+ - the datasheet http://www.totaloil.com.au/pages/content/nt0000c9da.pdf says it's approved by Renault for the TL4 box. As I understand it (and am more than happy to be corrected), GL4+ means an oil that will satisfy GL4 and GL5 - it's equivalent to "GL4/GL5" labelling...
