Welcome back, I just recently returned myself after a long forum hiatus.
If/when I sell my Albi blue, I'd totally buy another 197 in Racing blue down the line, that color is just beautiful, wish I found one when I was shopping... enjoy the car! :)
Just incase anyone reads this in the future, it was the lower arm/wishbone ball joint causing the clunking over potholes/bumps, and the n/s brake disc was blued causing the steering judder under braking.
All my pistons are moving freely, pushing back in and popping out evenly when the brake pedal's applied, so seems I may have just picked up a stone and scored half the disc, I guess it was just a coincidence the previous disc on that side was blued.
Thanks mate, I spoke to renault parts and they just quoted me for a new caliper, I did ask if you can buy the pistons/seals separatley but he didn't mention anything...
I changed my brakes a few months ago but my n/s disc had worn ridged (running your finger you could feel the disc worn unevenly) I changed my brakes this past weekend and it already has a line going around the middle of the n/s disc.
Now it could be something caught in the pad, I'm also...
So I have a steering judder under braking @ 30mph, when I brake from 50-60mph it's pretty much fine but as soon as I hit 30mph the steering wheel wobbles considerably. If i pull the handbrake up it's fine so I'm fairly sure it's the front brakes.
I changed my brakes all round a couple months...
I've had my car for ~4 years now, I changed the plugs for the first time along with an air filter (ITG) last weekend and there's quite a bit of difference I think, no flat spot and more power lower in the rev range, should've changed it much sooner!
Good idea, I've seen the advice on this forum that the only way to get em out is give them a good wack, I can see why as I can't see 'a small amount of force' getting them out if they've been in there for a while. I copper greased up the new set of pins so hopefully they'll slip right out next...
Update replacing the wishbone has cured the knocking/clunking noise I've had for the last few months! However the steering judder under braking is still there, under moderate braking from ~30mph. Under heavy or light braking there's no judder, no squirming under heavy braking either... I'm...
Update - I checked the thermostat housing and there's gunk around it and a little puddle nearby so I think the seals must be knackered, I'm going to change the whole housing/seals and 'stat next weekend. The housing is metal so not sure it needs replacing but I got a decent trade price on it all.
I checked my coolant tank today and it was empty! I topped it up and ran the car for a few minutes and it seemed to be ok, at least coolant wasn't gushing out of anywhere.
The other day when starting up from cold I heard a very loud sloshing noise, if I had to guess it was coming from the n/s/r...
Hey guys, been a while since I've been on the forum and it's nice to be back, I've been doing a bit of work on my car recently and would appreciate a bit of advice.
My car's developed a knock from the n/s/f over potholes, when the suspension unloads/reloads you hear a loud clunk, then just...
I'll be changing my brakes this weekend, first time they've ever been off (30k/58 plate) and i'm trying to pre-empt any issues i may encounter.
I've bought a set of replacement pins, i'm just worried the old ones won't knock out... appreciate any advice on how to deal with it if they don't come...
I've just had my 197 repaired for front end damage (mostly O/S/F) and when i lock the car now i get a solid bleep from the N/S/R wheel arch for ~30 seconds.
Upon investigation, it's the bonnet switch for the alarm (N/S/F of bonnet) as when i push the bonnet down a little it hits the switch and...
