Mine seem to start fadeing after brakeing hard for a few bends close to each other (Burnham Bends - Essex).
Dunno if anyone else uses www.readyforthetrack.co.uk but here he suggests the difference between Pedal fade & Pad fade...
Got mine back today after having a new box fitted. (took 3 weeks! 1 week 4 Renault to decide whether to fix or replace & 2 weeks to deliver & fit, prob got lost in a volcano cloud some where!)
Gear selection was super smooth before, now a bit notchy (but happy with it)... may be just needs...
Finally got my car back with new gearbox after a month with out it & now they are every where!
Blue (not sure which) 197 southbound A12, Ly200 Maldon Bypass, Black 200 Latchingdon (was in the van then though).
Seen it a couple of times now...
You on here?
My Albi 197 should be back on the drive this weekend! (with a new gearbox!)
Though, when I have some RAC cover, I may actually take it out for a spin!!!:s (lost confidence)
Its a 200hp, naturally aspirated, 2L French car with a fantastic chassis...
It does what it does brilliantly...
My mate has just bought an 11 yr old Porche 911 for 2k less than I paid for my 07 Clio (dealer)...
I hate all German cars with a passion!
Thanks Jase, thats prob what it is then.
Lights are usually on anyway (ex biker), so I dunno.
If I ever get it back from Renault, I'll give it a try.
Thanks again.
Though I don't actually have my 197 @ t mo as it has been in for 'gear box problems' for 3 weeks now...
It has xenons &, apparently has, auto somthing on the lights!... I thought it was (they told be it was) auto dip but that doesn't seem to work... Is it just auto 'on'?
I know I sounds...
No signs at all with mine... all worked without fault, cold - warm - hot.
I changed from 2nd to 3rd & found I no longer had any forward gears!
Apparently it was an internal fault with the selector mechanism... dunno if this is the usuall prob.
They've decided to replace the box rather...
I have no idea!...well not much...
1st off... do ur ecu so it is not programemed for E.U. economy!
The in & outs are ballanced perfectly... not worth f**king them up with ' i know better, gimmy ur money' unless you go the whole hog!
Our company sold off all of thier mk1/2 Navraras quickly cos of rear axle failer!
We are getting off thread now. nissan, Susuki S**T - honda, toyota mitsubushi - Good
Renault - S**T(except for chassis), peugout, citrone good?
Almost, but not quite... 12k could have been better spent on an evo or a Subaru... if you don't mind all that plastic! Not really my thing...
Perhaps I am just in a narky mood after my nice new 197 f**ks up after 700miles!:@!:@!:@! hardly suggests a quality purchase!
The gearbox is obviously weak... that is why they all F**K up!
The 197 gearbox is too weak 4 the engine... Fact!
Never buy a 197 without a warrenty!
I love my 197, it handles like a train on tracks (could do with another 50bhp) Everything works perfectly re lecroninics etc. But, when...
No, I mean the other way...
I.E. the gearbox can't handle the torque from the engine as standard, an uprated clutch is only going to feed more into an already weak gearbox. An uprated clutch is only going to be more fierce!
The gearbox can't handle the standard clutch and engine!
Won't it just cause gearbox probs if you uprate the clutch?...
My car is still @ Renault having the gearbox fixed!:@!:@!:@!
Anyone know of mods to strengthen gearbox, or what it is that breaks in them?:001_unsure:
Took mine in today, gear box related prob (suprise!), can't say much... may turn out leagal.
I contacted Renault UK. & suggested that when my car comes in they check it over good & proper cos if any more major issues occour within the warrenty period I will be taking them to court asking for...
