Have read a few times of the starter motors getting too hot from exhaust manifold if your don't have the heat shield round the starter although I've been running without for a few months now and hasn't had any problems. Think RPD can do starters for £20 if you don't mind a used one

I am shooting a bit in the dark here but have you checked the voltage across the fuse when trying to turn the car over? if it gets nothing then voltage across fuse to earth as maybe a break in the wire somewhere?

Yeah you're having the exact same symptoms mine was having. But if you opened up that little box and moved the plastic flap at the bottom to see the rest of the fuses at the bottom to check the starter signal fuse I have no idea.

This was the exact problem on mine. the fuse is in the box to the side of the battery underneath another little plastic flap
