Throttle body relearn/reset

Hello,

Does anybody know how to manually reset the throttle body (i.e. throttle body relearn) without a clip diagnostic tool? I recently replaced the dephaser and timing belt, thinking of giving it a reset.

P/S: I don't think it is as simple as disconnecting the battery leads and touching them to drain out all the residual power.

I don't think they can be reset they are just a motorized flap the throttle pedal can be mapped angle to throttle percentage but what your asking is a little out of the blue did you do the timing belt to fix a car running problem?
 
Im guessing it's a197 or 200.. But if you do a better quality diagnostic software will do it, it don't have to be a clip it just has to be a good one with lots of options on...

The citroen ds3 has a similar thing if you disconnect the throttle body/air measurement valve but that's the hdi And it will show an engine fault it will say something like air measurement valve to open.

What vehicle do you actually have? With what engine?

As I say I've never had to do it on the clio, but I have done it on psa hdi engines after a disconnect and it has to be done on a good quality diagnostic tool.

Yes, the car was running poor and has a P0010 error on with check engine light and check emission. Sent it to Renault specialist with can clip said it was the Dephaser going out and got a quote of 1500euro to get it fix. In the quote it says "Reset throttle body" on top of all other fixes so I was wondering there must be a way of doing it. Maybe just not manually, guess I need a better diagnostic tool as @J9OWY mentioned. I am using Torque Pro now, is there a better one and not crazy expensive that you guys can recommend?

OK your fault P0010 is the same as DF080

So a better diagnostic tool or Renault clip can give more detail to the fault but there can be a few reasons

I will see if I can find the repair note NT6506A but tell me this, is your problem the idle speed (revs) or just loss of power remember faulty plugs and coil packs are not very obvious at idle and don't show error codes. To reset a 1.6 Megane revs problem idle at about 1500 rpm disconnect the battery for 5 minutes then reconnect then insert the keycard and without starting the car so keep your feet off the pedals and with the keycard inserted hold the start button for 5-6 seconds the ignition will turn on leave the car in this state for 5 mins then turn ignition off. You then can start the car and see if the idle is fixed.

Hi Turkie172,

Thanks a mil for this. My problem was the car wanted to stall when I move off from a dead stop. For example, while letting the clutch off with slight pressure on the gas, the rpm drops very quickly and stalls the car. I have to rev it to move the car off the stop.

Anyway, I have just replaced the dephaser and timing belt and cleared the fault code now. Let's see if the engine like come back up. It definitely feels a little more powerful now between 2-3.5k rev compare to pre-service.

Heng, without trying to state the obvious too much, it’s a petrol engine. It will need revs to pull away.

Hi RSRowe,

Totally but this just felt a little different to how it was and other petrol engines I have driven. For me, it felt like the first 10% of stroke on the gas pedal was not doing anything. When I go beyond that, the car over-revved. It is kinda hard to explain. I guess an easy way to explain this would be the throttle wasn't responding linearly. Is this common for 197? Or does the throttle need a reset/recalibration as per the Renault Specialist I sent my car for diagnosis?

Ok good to see someone has the same issue with 197 too. And we have the same colour too so I guess it was a genetic trait...
