Aircon not working....

Just had it re-gassed, it was pretty low, but it still doesn't work, even on tickover, selecting the aircon doesn't seem to kick the pump in, no slight hesitation in the engine revs, and no cold air.

So...probably the pump?

Anyone know a decent place to get a pump, and an idea of the price?

And how much does the pump swap cost?

Having read quite a few threads on here, it's now booked in to a Renault delaers next Friday for diagnostics.

The young lass there rang me back ten minutes after I made the booking to tell me there is an advisory out on the car about CLIP rest for the aircon, and if so, it will be free.
Can't complain at that....
And we just had it regassed for free because it didn't work after re-gassing, so no charge. Decent.

She rang me back to say that when she entered his car on the computer system, it came back saying it needs CLIP and that there could be a possible fault that would stop the aircon motor running.

I'd already found out on here that, if it runs out of gas, that means no oil, which is no lubricant, and so the ecu (???) tells the aircon not to work.

Maybe it's supposed to tell to work again, and it's not doing it?

Anyway, if it's that, it's free.

I'll know more after next friday.

the "issue" isn't that more to do with cars with climate control and not just the air-con on/off switch?

as regards the issues - I wouldn't just rush in and assume its the pump - you need to make sure its getting the "on" signal...

could be a fuse/relay/wiring fault....

I would guess and say the ecu as lock the pump out due to low level gas in the system, not all cars required it but some do.

That's what Renault seem to think it seems to be fairly common.

Well a mixed bag of news.

First off, they couldn't get their diagnostic machine to talk to the car...much faffing about produced the fuse for the horn blown, once replaced, it was OK.

THEN they discover that yes, it wants a Renault sponsored repair, but it needs a new part loom which they don't have in stock, so it'll have to be ordered from a dealer near Loughborough when he goes back to uni.

Meanwhile, £78 to tell me that. :001_rolleyes:

Then, onto the "free health check".

They came up with £1600 of work wanting doing. :huh:

They had stuff on it like "replace n/s repeater bulb, £18"...
Needless to say, parts have been sourced and the work is in hand MUCH cheaper, including four tyres, the whole lot less than £700. Main dealers, eh?

Oh, AND it took them four hours........

If it was the one booked in on Friday at Brian Leighton Garages
it req quite a bit of work and to be fair it looked a bit neglected hence the big health check. All the prices quoted was for genuine parts and decent tyres.What you have got to remember we have a duty of care when we get a vehicle on site and if the car is dangerous or unroad worthy (which it was ) we have to let you know with a full cost. We could have quoted for non genuine parts to make it cheaper.

been well maintained then....what with bulbs not working and tyres etc :bored:

Well, yes...but the lad IS now only a student again, so he tends not to ask dad for too much, LOL.

Wasn't getting at Brian Leighton's, they did charge me £78 for about three hours' work, but dealer prices are daft.

£78 for 3 hrs....that's a bargain from a dealers!

theres a big difference from a local specialist come back street garage to a dealers as they have to have certain facilities which means cost
and that is part of the labour charge...

Aye, that's understood, but some of their prices make your eyes water.

And they CAN do it at a better rate as a local Citroen dealer once did for me.

Update:

He took the car to Archie Moss at Loughborough, a service centre, but not a dealership for sales.

They had a look at his paperwork, told him they had no idea what Brian Leighton's were talking about it needing a new loom, and switched on the aircon at the ecu...which is what I asked BL to do.:@

They also pointed out that the second arb droplink was gone, too...now replaced.

Total charge: nothing.:thumbup1:

I'm NOT so happy with BL now, that £78 sounds less like a decent deal, they seemed more interested in finding work........

Meanwhile, the youngest's Megane Sport R26 has an intermittent engine warning light, he's been told it's likely an injector, but it won't be going to BL for diagnosis, that's for sure!
