Yiannis' Albi Blue R27 - Toning down...

Nice write up Yiannis, glad to hear you had a good drive out. The M3 does look the business! Good to see two R27s together as well though!

So, Anglesey this weekend and revenge is a dish best served cold. That stands for the car playing silly buggers with me afters all those years of abuse!

Great weekend up until I got black flagged because the marshals thought my car was falling apart. There was a massive knocking noise when I would turn left and a whining noise when I would turn right. This would occur only when the car was driven hard. On the road there are no sounds/noises at all and to make things even worse it only takes 2 minutes for these sounds to disappear therefore it makes it nearly impossible to reproduce them on the ramp!!

Everything is solid underneath, the car has been on the ramp and everything is normal, well it seems not. However I came back today, 300 miles and no issues whatsoever! WTF!

What do you reckon car cause these kind of sounds when heat and stress comes to play? Bearings? CV joints? Driveshafts?

Compare 15 seconds with 1min 15 seconds, and there's a fair difference in the rate of noise. So must be road speed related and therefore rotational (which it sounds anyway), so I reckon driveshafts.

Cheers Rich, this is the feedback I'm getting from other people as well.

The driver's side is brand spanking new, so I guess it must be the passenger's one then..

It would be rude not to go for a blast last weekend since the weather was more than decent and yes, bank holiday weekend don't forget:smile:

Me, Mes @///M with his car, a gorgeous and brilliantly modified M3 E46 CS, a Mes' mate with an R8 and Simone, Mes' gf with another R27...

Yianni, great post mate! What a fun day out. Simone is STILL giving me grief that she beat us to the first stop. Diz will never hear the end of how his R8 couldn't beat her little R27

:w00t:

Glad you enjoyed the ride in the ///M. I knew you'd like the throttle response. It's just so bloody urgent. It's the Alpha N map and the air intake mate. Can bag up to 30 bhp just with that set up alone. Shame you'd need to spend £10k to get another 30 but hey! Brakes are a bit shady at the moment, think they need an overhaul but she's still fun.

Must do it again soon.

Car is looking a mess right now, just done about 800 miles across Wales. Amazing ride!

Sorry to hear of your troubles mate. Sounds really horrible, one of those that really does your head in. I'm sure you'll get it sorted. Only money eh?

Hope to see you soon.

Some action and pics from the TD then:smile:

Highlight of the day was Andy's genuine motorsport elise alongside some nice exotica, 1 on only 50 made with a second example also parked in his garage for racing purposes. To make this more special he put the seat in the middle which is seriously cool. As he could not give me a passenger ride he was too kind to offer me the keys for a session which of course I declined for the obvious reasons..

Steff from analogue automotive gave me a passenger ride with his Zenos E10 r though. That beast has 500bhp per tonne and huge mechanical grip levels however I was not impressed with the engine mapping. It reminded me of turbo cars of the 90s with their ****ty power delivery. Also, the turbo noise was so irritating as it was too loud. Apart from that, the car is seriously capable and super fast.

Henry's honda supercharged chargecooled exige S1 is something else though. Liner delivery up to 9k rpm, more or less same weight and 330 bhp at the rear wheels. Savage...I went out with him for a session and it completely blew me away. Standards have been recalibrated...

Clio stood well though amongst those wolfs, I gave loads of passengers rides and people were indeed impressed with this little hatch. Good times:smile:

No mate same height:smile: Maybe the pics are misleading.

Given that I now use a bit softer springs the front went immediately lower so we had to raise it a bit.

Sorry to hear about this mate, hope you got it sorted! The clios are frustrating with there little niggles sometimes particualy when you don't know what they are!

Chris, thanks mate.

You should come join us sometime. Our usual first stop off is only an hour from you.

:thumbup1:

Just give me a shout and I'd be down for joining along, not sure I'd keep up with you guys though lol!

Looks right at home, hopefully one day I'll manage to snag a passenger lap off you

Great photos Yiannis and sounds like it was a good day, aside from the issues of course - I really hope you can get it all sorted. And I'll echo what Chris says in that they can be very frustrating cars when you hear noises, knocks, rattle etc... Fingers crossed you will get to the bottom of it.

And get to the bottom of it 1st time - without renewing parts that you then find wernt the issue after all.

Now THATS frustrating.........

haha thanks guys. To be honest I'm not getting frustrated at all. Remember the car will be turning 9 years old next month and given the abuse it has been getting these things are to be expected. The problem is 99% driveshaft which is not a big deal, second hand ones are about £50 from ebay, mine will be covered by the extended warranty so all good there:smile:
Pav I did upset a few drivers that day mate yes:wink: Best part was when a honda elise s2 had to pull over for me to overtake. Gold! However there were some really fast cars out there that I wouldn't even dream of keeping up with them at the track such as Lotus 211, 991 GT3 RS, GT4, R500, R400 etc.

I'll report back as soon as I got any news:smile: Thanks again.

Not Clio related material but petrolhead material for sure. Last weekend we visited Bucharest for a partying weekend and of course it would have been rude if we hadn't visited transfagarasan. The fact that the road only just opened last Saturday made it even more appealing. So, got in a rental (fiesta 1.0L, 800 Km on the clock, felt sorry for abuse I gave it but hey, rental are the quickest cars out there) and we hit the road. At the first hour of driving we got pulled over by the police and fined for speeding. Nice start...Then, on our way back an accident cause huge delays and we nearly missed our flight so you can imagine the stress. In fact if our flight had not been delayed we would have simply missed it. However though, Tranfagarasan did not disappoint. It is absolutely brilliant up there and every petrolhead should visit. And yes, partying in Bucharest was awesome:wink:
