Vibrating/tinking noise

Hi all.
Just had my cam belt and aux belts changed.

It's all back together and there is a noise that starts at about 5.5krpm and then get really loud at above 6krpm.

The mechanic who changed it is looking at the car now and he can't find anything that it could possibly be.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Cheers again.

Dom

The mechanic can't see anything.
He's taking it apart again I think

He's done over 400 Clio belt services and has never come across it.

:-(

i know it might sound daft but it could be a faulty timing belt guide pulley just because its new doesnt mean it cant develope a fault

if it wasnt there before it can only be either wrong assembly or a faulty "new" component!

Cheers Si.
He said he was just in the process of checking that.

If it is that I safe to drive home?

The garage I'm at is 2 hours away from home.

Am I safe to drive it.
The tech doing it says I should be fine to drive home if that's what the problem.

Would you agree?

He's had a look and the timing belt guide pulley is greasy.
And he says it should be dry.

How would you confirm if it's the pulley at fault?

Really appreciate this Si

He has a 182 guide pulley.

He has a 182 guide pulley.

sometimes its only parts substitution that can confirm it - the pulleys may only make a noise under belt tension

as for using it....i wouldnt like to say as i am not there - not what you want to hear but if you were to use it i would keep it at low revs

That's what he's said Si.

He's just in the middle of swapping the pulley for a new one.

Hopefully this does the trick.

He said if when hes taken it all off and done it again it still makes a noise then it's safe as far as he knows and like you said. Keep it at low rpm until it's sorted.

He has said the check emissions light is on also.
And it wasn't on before.

(I had my manifold replaced by Renault 3 weeks ago)

Thanks again Si

has the dephaser been checked ie no play? (would assume he knows this to be honest)

done plenty of engine jobs over the years were new parts are indeed faulty!!

also check the dephaser solenoid wiring/connection....just strange the emission light is on

Nope. Doesnt seem to have play in it.

Hopefully what he's doin now works.
Else am screwed.

It's a strange sound.like a washer being spun on a screwdriver.

Thats all I can explain it as anyway.

:-(

Yeh Adam.
That's exactly what it is.

I am not just leaving it like that.
It may not be a problem now, but what if it is causing damage over time.

Mine doesn't seem to do it when stationary tho.

It never did it before the belt change and service. And now it does and the emissions light is on
