Track car on a budget!

Thought it was about time I started my project thread for my cheap track car project...I bought this RB 197 in September, due to missing my old one many years ago! Having previously sold my SG meg powered 200 for a new mk3 focus rs, I regretted the move from the moment the clio left me!
I was using a heavily modified mk5 golf gti that was very much a btcc inspired car, but lost the sense of turning up at a trackday, pounding around all day and having fun with friends...so here i am, back in a clio

I bought the car with some little go faster bits added!
Miltek exhaust system (which i will change)
De-cat
KTR induction
KTR coilovers
FX Motorsport wheels

I have since fittee some ferodoo ds uno (clio cup racer) front pads and goodridge braided hoses!

I have bought some 8J speedlines, that do need some work doing to them and a set of michelin cup 2's - for when lockdown is lifted for a trackday!

I have just taken delivery of a full cage, which I took advantage of the black friday offer that JP cages were doing!

Time is against me getting things done currently as I'm still working and have a 6 month old, which is where my priorities currently lie...but I will get it done eventually

Very small update on this...DS UNO pads fitted up front, with new pins and braided hoses, along with a pair of rear calipers due to the usual seizure issues!
I've replaced the handbrake cables too as they weren't looking their best!

I've fitted an upper powerflex bush too, as i had the wiper arms off and scuttle out to clean the blocked drains.

Car is going to have the cage dry fitted soon, then i shall paint it and refit!

I need to refurb some 8J speedlines and fit the cup2's that i have got too!

So a further update on the cage...it doesn't fit, so is beibg returned to the manufacturer, hoping to get it rectified and back too me soon!

As you can see, the front bars do not clear the door handles.

Could always remove door cards and replace with some trackday door cards, you would have clearance then.

Well i had planned to dry fit this before painting/powder coating for this exact issue. The whole point of me buying the dash dodger style cage, is that it retained some of the creature comforts for a sunday morning road blast should i want to. My previous car was fully cage and had the door cards replaced with slim type....but the novelty soon wears off. Hence why i went this route. Im hoping that the issue gets resolved soon, so i can get the plates weleded and get some track days booked

To be fair, it’s rare cages like this just slot into position without a bit of tweaking.

It’s not uncommon to have to run a ratchet strap around the feet to then weld the plates in. Obviously not ideal but shouldn’t be too difficult.

Yes i totally understand that, but this is currently no where near fitting, even with a bit of tweaking. Hence why it's going back for jigging to see where it gone wrong.

Found the issue with the cage! It is back with me...which has gone back into the car as its been powder coated!

But we have another issue with the front plate fittings...I've spoken with the supplier and think we know where its gone wrong this time.

I've got an evening at brands booked for 4th May - so hopefully this all starts coming together now!

Another update...the cage still doesn't fit correctly and I've run out of time...so it will have to be track day door cards (that i have on order)

Had a day off work yesterday to get it ready for Tuesday.
Michelin cup 2's fitted
Raised the front suspension
Fitted Front brake ducts
Seat and moubts in
Harness still to fit...but its nearly ready for its first outing now!

The cups 2s are good tyres but wear quick on track and are pricey!!

I've often wondered how the dash dodger cages sat in the car, do you find the vertical bar gets in the way of your knee at all? Even without a cage my knees take a battering around track so a dash dodger may cause more pain for me :tearsofjoy:

Sounds like you need a bucket seat, to stop you moving about.

When i get a chance to drive it I will let you know.
But having driven it half a mile from the workshop back home, i cannot see an issue with getting any knee bashing!
I'm pretty happy with how its looking...even if its not how I had intially intended ut to be like this.
