Superchips Blue Fin

Hi

Was thinking of getting a superchips remap and a milltek exhaust from Demon Tweeks as it is near to where I live and they will supply & fit both whilst I wait.

However they offer a rather expensive Blue Fin plug & play thing (£455). Are they any good? anybody any experience of these?

They also offer a normal superchips remap but you have to call to get a price and I assume this is cheaper.

As i'm new to engine maps and stuff, I just wanted to know what the opinion is of the superchips map for the clio, and if anybody can recommend or warn me away if its naff lol

Thanks guys

Don't bother with BlueFin or the Superchips.

Get the exhaust and then go and have a proper Remap done at a specialist. The BlueFin and Superchips are very basic, generic maps and not every engine is built equally so they may not actually give you any gains and in some cases they have been known to reduce power or cause running problems. For around £350 you'll get a unique and individual Remap at somewhere like RSTuning and it'll be tailored exactly to your car. Don't expect huge gains anyway, NA engines are tough to tune and the F4R is in a very high state of tune from the factory as it is.

Hope that helps!

Thanks mate appreciate your input there. I haven't heard of many clios with a super chips map which is why I asked. In regards to big gains I'm not expecting much. I just wanted to remap the engine to avoid the flat spot when I change my exhaust.

No worries!

Fitting a Miltek shouldn't create or increase any flatspot. It's a well designed system, you'll get most of the benefits from it after having the car Remap'd to suit but you shouldn't suffer any problems in the meantime. To add to the BlueFin/Superchips thing, they're intended to "improve" an otherwise standard car and so they wouldn't be calibrated to factor in the Miltek you'll be adding anyway.

RSTuning are in Leeds by the way, so not a million Miles from yourself. There are a few other good places to have a Remap done by the way, I'm not plugging RSTuning it's just that they're the closest for you.

No specificly directed at clios but somtimes generic remaps can be a good thing. The will of spent months fine tuning the map in hot and cold temps and pefecting it on one car then they can sell to thousands. Yes every engine is different but for the sake of a few extra bhp id be happy with one rather than having some guy on a rolling road spend a few hours mapping it.

Plus the big bonus with a bluefin is if your car is under warranty you can add or remove it wenever you want in about 5mins.

Just my thaught, am sure many differ

I'm sure there was one on here a while ago that ended up running "dangerously lean" after using a BlueFin. For what they cost and for what the typical Remap costs it's not worth the risk to me. Warranty issues a grey area, Renault would have to prove the Remap had caused the fault for them to get out of it... For example, if your headlights stop working they can't blame that on you sticking an aftermarket exhaust on as there's absolutely no rational link between the two.

If the Remap caused you engine problems then I'm sure whoever carries it out would have some kind of warranty policy in place if it could be proved that the Remap was at fault.

He wont of known it was running lean i bet untill he prob visited a rolling road where am sure the.guy then remapped it for him and made it perfect for a sum. Lol

Yeah something like that, it's on here somewhere from a few months back. I think he/she went for a Remap and it was pointed out rather than it being pointed out as a sales pitch...

I have the bluefin and have had no problems with it at all. Easy to install and I didn't have to take a day off work to drive half way across the country to have the car fine tuned for the sake of a couple of extra bhp. I followed the story of the guy who's car the map is based on and it is a personalised map to his standard car put onto the bluefin device. It was on offer when I got it and was £200 so worth it in my opinion.

it was an independant rollers from what i remember and the operator was trying to sell him a remap. from what ive learnt, the ignition is slightly out from standard, renault tuners know this and is the first thing they correct while mapping, if superchips dont know this and map everything else, it could be the reason why it was running lean.

me personally would go for fastchips rs tuner, which is around the same price or rs tuning tuning box which is abit more pricey.

you wont know if there anything wrong unless, you put it on the rollers.

Yup i'd go with that

Buy a second hand Fast chip RS tuner (~£90)

License (£90 ish)
Remap (~£40)

Remap your car, then sell it on. Remap for under £150. Henks maps are good and has a long history with RS clios back with the 172's. Unless you're chasing every last bhp its worth it for the better drivability Bit of a difference with a custom map being around £350 ish

Aye, but after selling mine should be left with £40 over buying a new one. The guy originally wanted £130! The sums didnt add up at that price!

I have has the blue fin fitted for a few months and got it when it was on offer at £200, it has done what I wanted it to do, removed the flat spot and has increased the cars drive ability, but that is all I have done with my car, when I do induction work and a new exhaust I will get a custom remap as it will benefit me more, But yea I can't knock the blue fin
