197: Strange Noise

Bought an o6' 197 two months ago from garage and since picking it up it has been in with them for a month of this time trying to trace a noise.

There is a gurgling noise behind the dash at passenger side which occurs above 4500 rpm and sounds like a percolating noise.

They have had it in four times and have said.

1st - Air lock in system - bled it and nothing
2nd - diagnosed with faulty heater matrix so booked in to replace
3rd - replaced heater matrix - noise still present
4th - re-diagnosed with airlock so bled, re-bled then they vacuum bled it. Finally said there is nothing wrong it is just a noise.

The car is still with them as they are now replacing coolant pipes in system, they have changed the water pump and timing belt as well. They say the head has been tested and there is no problem with that.

They have said they will not spend any longer trying to diagnose a noise as it does not affect the running of the car....does anyone have any ideas or has had anything similar????

The noise drives me mad and I am concerned that it could be air drawn into system or alternatively a cracked head which will lead to a massive problem/bill!

Hi beaker...

Where are you in the UK.

Did you buy it from a Renault Dealership?

Also, they cant just say "There not spending any more time on it" there is a fault somewhere, its up to them to sort it.

Failing that, you could always travel to a Renault-sport Specialist. Let them have a look, then take it to the dealership with there findings...

I am near Leeds I bought it not from Renault but another main dealer.

I have said the same that they can't just say they aren't doing anymore but they say it doesn't affect the driving or performance of the car and it is fully useable.

I was thinking that best way after I get it back is maybe to RS tuning for a diagnosis was just wondering if anyone had ever had anything similar.

They haven't considered fuel pump then believe it is an airlock in the coolant and apparently they are a pain to bleed which I have not heard of

I'm sure i've read somewhere on here that the drainage holes near the front being blocked an canuse this noise? Not sure where I read it though!!

Hi. I had bad noise from the gromets on both doors as the seals weren't secure so rattles around that rev limit. Just check the seals as it was annoying.

bleed mine fine

I will see what happens this time then and look at cleaning the drain holes and bleeding system myself (take it it's better to raise the front end to bleed it) and see what happens after this. Thanks for the replies, I was hoping my first post would be a good one not a fault finder as I didnt expect this! Never had anything wrong with my old 172

dont jack anything up!

just top up with bleed points open and then with engine running and heater on hot open bleed points again until they run bubble free...top up header tank job done

Just a thought. Do you have the air con running all the time. My car makes a funny rasping sound when the air con is on but not when it is off.

You'd have thought (hoped) that a garage doing a cambelt/water pump would have done this though.
