Service Plan - Is this worth it?

The 200 is in for it's first service after just hitting 11,500 miles. The cost quoted to me by Sutton Park (Warwick) is £280.03 and this morning they've been trying to sell me the service plan.

This is the cost breakdown for 4 services:

  • £209.94 (today)
  • £846.93 for remaining 3 services (£280 each) @ 1x £26.67 and 31x £26.46

To give you a better picture I'm told that these are the actual costs for the future services:

  • 24,000 mile service = £315.55
  • 36,000 mile service = £386.09
  • 48,000 mile service = £315.55

I'm also told this plan will also cover MOTs when necessary.

So - I have to decide today. What do you think? Are they any follow up questions I should ask?

They seem dear to me Webby, have you rung any other dealers out of the Sutton Park network and got some prices? I think the 24k service on mine was only just over £220. The prices may have changed since I had mine done over a year ago, but that does seem a lot to me, so I'd do some research first. I did ask about the service plan, but they never got back to me from Renault Wolverhampton with a price. For me it wasn't making it cheaper, but spreading the cost.

Good idea.

I'm just requesting additional service plan quotes today. Obviously should of done this before now, but it could still help me get a better deal.

Okay - let this be a lesson for me to learn:

Quotes from Jaybee Renault Banbury:

  • 12,000 miles = £206.05
  • 24,000 miles = £239.75
  • 36,000 miles = £311.00
  • 48,000 miles = £239.75
  • 60,000 miles = £206.05
  • 72,000 miles = £1081.27 (includes cambelt)

Mods - I wonder if these prices could be useful for others in a new sticky post? Start a bit of a database going?

i would keep the £1000 in the bank and gain interest on it (i know rates are low but its still something in your pocket)

then come next service ring round to get a few quotes and from renault specialists

theres also a few jobs you could do yourself and get them to do ones you cant diy but still get the stamp in the book

ie air filter and pollen filter are easy jobs!

Oh the cambelt cost isn't being included in the service plan. Those are individual yearly costs at todays prices.

But you're right about banking that money until you need it. In fairness I'm paying for the car over 4 years so hopefully I won't need to touch the 72k service myself.

Okay - Phoned Sutton Park Coventry and spoke with Gavin. A big thanks to this man as he offered to reduce today's service price to £229.74 and sort out the details with Sutton Park Warwick. Top man!

Gavin - Thank you.

I wouldn't bother with a service plan...the cost of the plan itself is expensive and doesn't seem to save you much. I would just put the money in the bank each month and then its yours until you need it....and then I would take my car to a reputable specialist where you'll save at least 1/3 of those prices.....

My local dealer quoted £122 for the first service.

I'm not gonna say who, Foxspeed knows who I mean, but I will say just bargin hard with dealers.

Wouldn't touch with a barge pole.....LOL!!!

They were dreadful to deal with when I had all the problems with my 187 when I first got her :s

That service list costs are expensive are they not? The Renault specialist I use prices are:

Clio 197/200
12,000/48,000/84,000 mile service - £110
24,000/60,000/96,000 mile service - £110
36,000 mile service - £200
72,000 mile service - £330
Timing belt (including) accessory belt - £430
Standard clutch kit fitted - £650
Oil change with Fuchs Titan race oil with Renault filter - £86

Think the best option is to shop around different places as opposed to opting for the service plan.
