Retro fitted Projectors, dipped beam poor?

I've put projectors on my clio which didn't have them to start with so I know the cornering lights won't function.

Currently I only have standard halogen bulbs fitted but I do plan on getting better quality ones or even HID's which I assume most people who own projectors will have.

The current halogen bulbs are terrible lighting, almost dangerous, do I need HID's to increase the power because of the projector bit?

Is it simply down to poor bulbs ?

I have projectors, albeit not oem ones, but you just need better quality bulbs and they will be fine.
