request please How to remove calipers

right, I want to send my calipers away for a re furb and re spray ... the front one has a huge scar on the lovely paint work off something have no idea what, my problem being I cant get a local mechanic to come and take them off on my drive no one seems to want the job.. To***rs, as the car would need to be stood for a week on my drive without brakes this is how long the service ive chosen takes as I need to post them away to a caliper specialist I sourced online any help on gear I need and just basically a step by step I don't want to make mistakes and end up with brake fluid all over the drive, I probably have all ratchets hex tools the lot for removal (electrical engineer) and im pretty competent in using them:blink: lol. I seek advice as im not an expert with cars, want this doing and cant get the help locally. Cheers, Liam.

There's a guide in the 'how to' section of the forum.

The biggest pain for you will be the need to bleed your brakes after you take your calipers off and put them back on. And if you have no idea how to do that, I'm going to assume you have no idea how to reassemble and bleed them properly.

In which case...leave them alone.

If there's one area of your car you don't really want to mess with unless you know what you're doing it's brakes.

Having said that, if you do look in the how to section just find the guides for changing the discs. Calipers need to come off and you would just need to empty the brake fluid reservoir and disconnect the brake hose.

Take a picture of the caliper so you know which way it goes back on and you don't put it on upside down.

If you're using the firm in Nottingham for your refurb, I used them. They did a cracking job.

do not let all the brake fluid drain out if you disconnect the lines - the flexi should be clamp with a proper tool - if you don't and air gets in the abs actuator
it has to be put in bleed mode via diagnostics...

do you not know a mate of a mate that could do it for you? as a job it isn't that hard!

Rogue foxspeed thanks for the replies and yeah it is the Nottingham place mate I had considered using their drive in service but that would mean going down and staying the night! which I may have to do yet, and as for the mate of a mate think ive been asking around im willing to pay just cant get any one to do it.. its like id pay them fair and square no problem as its a job I really want doing but theres a shortage of decent 'willing to graft' mechanics around here its a nightmare getting anything done, I could change the discs no problem dropping the caliper off is easy too its the whole brake hose bits that scare me as correctly stated above "its not something you wanna get wrong or mess with" .. thanks anyway lads guess im best off keep asking around, im sick of it how long would it take a time served mech to do like?

Would it not be easier for you to spend some time with them on the car, can make them look good quite good with a tin of caliper paint!

Usual time is probably about a week. They had mine for a bit longer (long story). So yes, would probably require you to keep your car on the drive for a week.

I would budget for repairs in that paint. They will probably tell you that you need new seals as well.

I was planning on changing the front brake hoses on my 200 - but having read your comments about getting air in the ABS actuator I'm a little worried. Is there a method to prevent air ingress?

Just buy new ones works out cheaper when you sell your old ones I have just done it then you don't have to be off the road
