197: Renault Service

Hi all, are the official Renault services the best for a Renaultsport? Or should I find a specialist garage?

Cheers

I'm inclined to say a specialist would give your car more care and attention than a main dealer. It depends if you want an official stamp in the service book or not? I've used both and was disappointed with the main dealer 'service' when I had my car done there - I did it so I could have the stamp, but wish I hadn't bothered now.

Where are you located James? Someone may know of a good specialist close to you.

Chichester on the South Coast, my car has full Renault history so was wondering whether everyone thought that was best to carry on? But if not then would rather take it to somewhere with loving hands [emoji23]

It's down to what you would prefer to do - continuing on the full Renault history would certainly do you a lot of favours come selling time, but it doesn't necessarily mean you'll get the best 'service' not all dealers are bad, but they're not the be-all and end-all either. A good specialist will have the expert RS knowledge that a lot of general Renault dealer techs might not. IMO.

I would rather DIY with OEM parts than take it to my local Renault dealer. Your's is just another car to them like all the Dacia's, Kangoos etc. If I couldn't do it myself I would use a specialist even if it meant travelling a few more extra miles.

I personally buy all the bits for the servicing (just to make sure I know the car is getting the best oil etc) and take it to one of two local indies whom I trust. After all in respects to servicing the 197, it is just another Clio. More complex/expensive jobs definitely go to a specialist.

some bits can be done by yourself and if you have a friend who is a mechanic, then take it to him...
