Quaife LSD...

Has anybody had one fitted yet?

Contemplating getting one as I had one on my last car (FIAT Coupe 16V Turbo) and it made a big difference to that, but that did half almost double the torque of the 197 and didn't have anywhere as near as advanced suspension setup either. Trying to see if I can justify spending ~£1200 (good price to be fair) to have one fitted.

I've done a search and couldn't find anything. The only info I've seen on them really has been the test review on the K-Tec website.

Cheers,

Will

Had mine fitted by ktec.
Its not that more noticeable on road but on track will no doubt will be ace for track.
Is that price including calm unit and other ancillary bits?

Quite a few had them fitted, makes corner exit speeds much better and general traction alot better.

Depends if you think you'd get your moneys worth.

That's going off the price from Quaife for the diff (£585 + VAT) and I'm sure I read somewhere the labour was ~£550 from K-Tec too but I may have got that muddled with something else. What did they charge you all in if you don't mind me asking?

Have you been on track with yours since fitting yet Daz?

*EDIT*

Twig - I do 2-3 trackdays per year and the usual blasting around as/when I can at weekends etc., I'd say commuting accounts for less than 50% of my driving time in the 197. So at least 50% of the time I suppose the car is being used for what it's built for which is why I'm considering it. Have you had yours done too?

You need the calm unit plus other bits n bobs...think it weighed in at 1600 fitted. About that i believe as i had other stuff done at same time.. first td on may 21st

That's still not a bad price by any standards. I'm planning on getting a few bits all done at the same time next May when the cambelt's done which I'll more than likely have done there if I'm having other work done too. Just trying to give myself as much time as possible to think what I want doing and save up the best I can.

Ah nice one, where are you on track at?

Can i have my 2 pence worth?

Id say for the money its not worth it on a standard car there isnt enough power/torque to spin that inside wheel really. I bought it, my mate stripped the box and clutch out then it was sent along with the box to a gearbox specialist (i can tell you the name if you pm me) sent back fitted to the car with new bearings, slave cylinder and new clutch plate. All in it cost £1300 at mates rates. My car was spinning the wheels thgh and losing tonnes of traction in corners.

Down side of it is the ride is very rough like clutch seems to slap in even when being gentle. It makes a funny whurring/whiney noise and i think uses more fuel.

All in all thgh the car was transmissionless for over 10 days if you can live with that. Even if u wanted to have a drive of mine to see what its like?

I like that noise Woody hahaha!!!

That's what I'm trying to decide, wether I'll get much benefit from it, I can't say I've noticed a great deal of wheelspin unless it's been really wet and although I am planning a few tweaks to the engine I'm not planning on going mad. But no doubt I'd notice a difference with one, just wether it'd be enough of a difference to warrant the cost.

Tbh i would spend the money on power (cams, skim, inlets, injectors) 2k tops and very noticeable difference.

Inlets, Remap, 100 Cell Cat and Custom Exhaust are on the to-do list already mate and it's a toss up between the LSD and Cams to be honest. Off topic of the LSD a bit, but what advantage did you get from changing injectors? Is there not much scope to push the standard ones before they're near their limit?

480cc compared to 430cc of the standard 197. The cylinders were ported at the same time along with other works so ...... On there own i wouldnt be able to say

My mate has one , also has 888's and KW clubsports, he days the traction and turn in is amazing, says not even an R26.R doesn't turn in like this. From a balls out handling point of view it will be good.

Redline magazine did a feature with a 200 on this. bu fitting the Quaife diff the standard 200 went 4 seconds a lap quicker!!! and they said it pretty good on the road as well. Worth a read mate

i can understand the 4 seconds been a problem in competition but track days. . . . not essential. how about you swap ure box with mine? 200 box done 3000 miles with a diff in exchange for your box and you paying the labour costs. £600 my way

This was posted up here by KTEC I think, 4 seconds a lap is a lot as it was only about a 90 second lap in total but I don't think it's really going to make your track day any more enjoyable

I vaguely remember reading about the 4 second saving, how much would an F1 team pay for that!?!

Woody, I'd snap your hand off if I had the cash mate as that's a pretty fair offer. But at the moment I'm just trying to get as much info' as I can so I can make a proper decision on what to have done when she goes away for her Cambelt change next May... I'm planning on having a fair bit of work done all at once.
