New tyres

Hi all,

I've had my 197 for about a month now and I'm in need of a new set of boots all round. I'm torn between the conti 5's, Dunlop sp sport maxx rt and eagle f1's.

Also, cambelt and water pump etc is due. Anyone know how much I need to budget for this doing?

Thanks in advance!

Martin

My car came with Conti 5's all round. Front 2 needed replacing about 2 months ago and I went for Eagle F1's.

No noticeable difference between the 2 to be honest. Both plenty capable tyres, fantastic wet grip from the F1's. The F1's felt a tiny bit more comfortable/soft on the road if anything (not a bad thing, felt a tiny bit less "crashy" over bumps).

The F1's were also about £15 per tyre cheaper than the Conti 5's from tyreleader.co.uk

As for the Cambelt - I've not had it done myself, but I've seen generally on here anything between about £500-800 at an independent/specialist.

I've just changed my front ones from budgets that come with it to the Eagle F1's difference is massive, As CallorFold said the wet grip is brilliant. Will be replacing my rears with the same shortly.

I believe the F1's are around £330 for 4 fitted from black circle, cambelt is around £550 and around £750 with the water pump I believe

Go to a RS specialist for cambelt kit. I paid about £400 all in. New tyres £72 per for mid range. So reckon within £700 for the lot.

Regarding the tyres, just seen the following don't know if its any use: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00AHQPEIK/?tag=clio197-21

Price looks good! I paid about £67 each for mine, they were 215 though not 225's

Actually, Tyreleader.co.uk currently have some demo F1 tyres (215/45/17) ("tyres that have been fitted and removed, and possibly used for a few metres"). They're guaranteed new, and only £60 per tyre - https://www.tyreleader.co.uk/car-tyres/goodyear/eagle-f1-asymmetric-2/215-45-r17-87y-353692

Just had 2 x Eagle F1's replaced through Black Cirles for £160 inc fitting. I paid £400 for my cambelt and waterpump change by a specialist in Doncaster.

Heard good things about DDC, will be using them next as they are fairly local to me. I paid £165 for the front two on mine (Eagle F1's) that was with kwik fit and they came and did them outside my work for free.. Wouldn't use them for anything else but the tyre service was spot on.

Solid price for 2 EAGLE F1's from KwikFit!! They checked my tyre for me and found a nail (too close to the sidewall to be repaired), and I asked for a quote for an Eagle F1, fitted. They came back with £120 per tyre!! Kindly told them to jog on and bought the tyres online (£67) + paid £10 a corner to local garage for fitting and balance.

I had to book online to get that price, I rang up the garage as I saw there was 25% off goodyear tyres in store offer on and they quoted me something stupid like £540 for 4 (Thats with the apparent 25% discount too).
Booked online and paid £165 for the two fitted at my work, baffles me how much price difference there is!

I've not had any work done at them previously, but I have only heard good stuff about them.

and I suppose compared to main dealer prices, DDC seem to be really good value for money

I had a full set of the F1s fitted this year and I rate them very highly. They replaced a mismatch of 4 odds and sods, so the difference was always going to be a significant step up, however they are a good tyre for the price.

DDC are now a forum trader  RICH@DDC

Thanks for all the replys guys.
I think I'll go with the eagle f1's.

As for the belt, DDC looks very competetive. If I can't get it done for a decent price locally, Doncaster ain't too far.

anyone had conti 5s and then eagle f1s?
my contis are very low and seemed to have dropped off in performance and just get alot of understeer now which ive never had.
