locking/handle problem

my handle worked fine before being painted it was taken off painted and put back on it locks fine and unlocks but the outside handle does not open the door you have to open it from the inside the first time then after that it will open from the outside again passenger door works perfect what is wrong with it?

sounds like your driver door lock isnt unlocking. the interior handle overides and unlocks the mechenism i think so ide take off door card and check that the connector on the lock mechanism isnt disconnected or loose or damaged. do you double press lock button when locking? i wouldnt untill this is fixed
