Little black beauty!!! millsey2010 project thread

Hi guys, i recently bought myself a clio 197 and have loved every minute of my 6 day ownership so far.

The car appears to have a few extra options that weren't listed in the advert:

 • cabasse cd changer
 • climate control
 • auto headlights and auto wipers
 • H&R lowering springs
 • Possible exhaust mod - need to get it on a ramp to investigate further.

To date:

 • I have debadged the rear (last night in the dark so still some residue left to buff off).
 • Fitted gloss black badge covers front and rear.
 • Fitted Team Heko wind deflectors.
 • Replaced some perished seals.

I am not quite sure what to do next but will be looking at installing an aux cable to the under seat amp (doesnt seem too difficult); fitting exhaust tips and fitting a pipercross air filter.

Welcome to the forum!

Iirc people have trouble fitting aux cables to the cabasse. Could be wrong though.

You dont need a ramp, have a look through the rear diffuser, if theres a massive back box then its standard.

Some time has passed since I started this thread so I thought I would provide a brief update.
After discovering a split in one of the flexis to the manifold and that both stabiliser links were shot I have ordered:

- Toyosport manifold
- Powerflex engines bushes - upper & lower engine and torque arm
- New stabiliser links for both sides

I am hoping to get them fitted this week by a local 'ish' mechanic who has carried out some work on a work colleagues fleet of alfa's.

The RAC warranty that came with the car is pretty useless as is the dealer I bought the car from. I am hoping to try and recoup some costs for the above from the dealer as it is likely these issues existing before I purchased the car - even though it passed an MOT two week prior :001_huh: watch this space...

After considering various mod options I am looking to:

- fit new mats throughout - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281720529704?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
- fit a new headunit and possibly an amp/sub - bluetooth pioneer is my preference atm
- fit new air filter - thinking pipercross
- spray front grills and rear diffuser anthracite to match the alloys - not sure whether to have a go at plasti dipping them or to just get them done professionally. Been quoted £220 for the grills and the diffuser. Does this sound about right?
- fit new exhaust system - cobra/scorpion/milltek - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271835589916?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
- fit new pressed plates - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321413552350?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
- fit new wheel nut caps - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261813945900?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

obviously I am not planning on buying all the above in one go. I will be spreading the costs over the next few months with the exhaust being one of the latter items to be fitted

any recommends, comments welcome

if picture is correct on the ebay link to the matts it seems like the Renault Sport is on the wrong side of the matt, as that picture shows its a left hand drive car and logo is to the left not a right hand side car with it closer to the door if that makes sense
just be careful with pressed plates as some police are worth than others when it comes to fines and point

just a few pointers thats all
car looks good though fella, shame about the flexi leak, worth getting it up on some ramps to check it

Cheers Danny. Will looks into the matts properly before settling on a set.
My dad has just picked up some legal pressed plates - look pretty smart for just under £20.
Getting the manifold sorted in Thursday all being well

so i collected my clio this morning after having the manifold, stabiliser links and powerflex bushes fitted. The engine feels and responds positively different... feels more eager to go and less stutter when putting you foot to the floor, even in a higher gear.
my car suffered from a flat spot before between 2200 - 2800 revs but this seems to have changed. it kicks in around 2000/2100 revs but quickly disappears which is a big bonus  quite an increase in vibration at idle and through the accelerator pedal when cruising at high speeds - this doesnt bother me...yet.
the knocking on the suspension is still there - been told now it needs new inner tie rods. but that can wait for a bit.

now time to save up for a new exhaust

good system. Chris91 could tell better..you can get a 200 system too and save yourself some pennies as it is a bit cheaper than a 197 one...

Yeah I had a resonated scorpion on mine and it sounds great! If you check pu11ys progress he has some vids of his.

You wont regret it!

cheers for that. will have a look now...

Pav why is the 200 cheaper? just had a quick look.is it because it doesnt have the tips?

Yeah the tips are the difference I believe. You can get the 200 system and get some cheaper tips, but the scorpion ones are decent IMO.

so, out of the following three would you guys say the scorpion is the best bet?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Scorpion-...463?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item35e21ba5f7
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cobra-Spo..._Gen:MK+III|Cars+Type:197&hash=item3f48d82675
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Milltek-S...MK+III|Cars+Type:197&hash=item46250043a2there

there is very little in it in terms of price. all three are different designs so would be interesting to see what the differences are... might have to spend a bit of time on youtube

I personally think scorpion is the better sounding between that and the miltek (only slightly). Not heard a cobra in person or video so cant comment.

Although im bias cos I had one
