ive got a knicking noise coming from the power steering rack ive been told its has a little movement and needs changing, what sort of price is a fair price for a garage to change ?

The Renault specialist told me it was the hub carrier he changed tht then there was still the noise then said there is slight play in the steering rack
so the specialist changed something for nothing then.....
was it not checked on the mot turning plates?
play in the inner rack ball joints is quite common!! and parts readily available!!!
if its checked and found to have play in suspension items you should change the cheapest first (unless it poses a safety issue) or at least when removed/disconnected should be checked for wear!!
