Yesterday, we finally picked up the R27.
we hadn't set out to own an R27, just purely wanted a nice 197 to build upon to be a trackday toy for 2014, but as the brief hunt took place this R27 popped up and ticked the boxes.
but first, a few pics and brief details of my previous trackday and fun toys over the past few years.
my first fully dedicated track car was my Escos, purchased as a more or less standard car, found within a few miles of home with a knackered engine, and snapped up for a steal.
new engine fitted, and a summer of fun followed, before it was taken off the road and best part of a 5 year project followed.
ending up with this as a final car, picture courtesy of Fast Ford Mag when they did a feature on it at Bruntingthorpe
563bhp and probably my best project to date.
while the escort was being built up, and becoming bored of having nothing to have fun with, I purchased a MK1 FRS to use for a year, but then got carried away aswell, turning this isn't another dedicated project, but looked quite good parked up in the garage together.
anyhow, a couple of years later I took the escort apart and broke it, along with selling the focus, to enable us to move to a nice big country bungalow, which was ideal for our dogs and a more relaxed way of life.
6 months later, the Ford RS bug was still itching in my blood, so an impulse purchased of a 6 months old totally standard UG FRS was made, and within 3 months she turned out like this, pushing best part of 400bhp/440lbft
then, aprox 2 years back, the other half needed a little car for a while, we snapped up a cup packed 182 that had come in to a mates garage as a part ex.
she fell instantly in love with it, and to be honest even I found it to be a fun little motor.
with a ring trip looming and for some reason the FRS off the road, we decided to take the clio along. Last minute popping on some wilwood 4 pots and AST Coilovers, 2118's with 888's for that little bit more fun while out there... And I returned saying it had actually been one if the best cars I'd used on the ring over the last 6 years of going.
a few months later, a clio Trophy popped up.
for some reason it had no seats or wheels and was a bit high mileage.
so a deal was struck, and the Trophy was purchased to become a purely track dedicated car.
it was stripped of everything, sound deadening hunted out of every nook and cranny, light weight panels fitted, even the factory seat rails removed and new ones fabricated for a lower and better driving position.
AST's and 4 pots swapped over from the misses 182, along with a lot of rose jointed parts within the rear beam, lower arms and top mounts... And the final item being the Trophy Track Car
The Trophy was only ever going to be a years worth of fun, as summer crept up I started saying that over winter I wanted to progress on to a 197, to litterally use it as natural progression and to be a new project for trackdays in 2014.
so with that, the Trophy is already being pulled apart.
out with the old, and in with the new.
And with the Focus RS having just been sold a few weeks ago, to hunt for an X5 to be the new tow car replacement...
welcome the new K12 FRS: DB R27
