How much brake fluid?

Going to bleed my brakes at the weekend and wondered how much fluid you need in order to replace it?

i run through 200-250ml per wheel ie 1ltr bottle

We did this yesterday and I was wondering whether changing the brake fluid can give you a different feeling to the pedal?

Basically the brakes do feel fine and obviously I stop but the pedal just feels slightly different. I have to press it slightly more before it bites but when it bites it bites hard. Can different fluid do this?

does the pedal "pump up" ie after a few pumps get firmer?

could have air in the system?

with the engine switched off - pump the pedal until it goes hard - then put pressure on and see if it stays hard - pump a few times and make sure it stays consistant - if it doesnt it could be air in the system ie needs to be re-bleed

just buy from dealers then - dot4 is standard fluid as it tells you on the brake fluid top
