How can this happen?!

Doing my weekly car inspection and I notice somethings off in the bay.

Both are loose and working themselves out!

Guessing whoever did the cam belt last didn't bother to replace the mounting bolts? That's the only explanation I can think of! They 'should' be replaced once removed but most places just re-use them.

Could try some loctite on the end to stop them working loose or just buy new ones.

How tight should they be? I've not got a torque wrench but give me an estimate.

The bolts seem in decent shape. What are they used for? Top engine mount?

most likely this....poor re-assmbly after belt change....git them tightened up :book:

Was done by a highly recommended specialist too...

I've tightened them but not mental tightness.

I've sent the guy a message, see what he has to say.

Both those bolts should be 62Nm.
I've not got a torque wrench buddy, any estimated man tightness that you'd recommend? They're fairly tight now so I don't want them to come out again. If they're over tightened, can they sheer?

62Nm is fairly tight, dab of loctite 243 (blue) wouldn't hurt I guess, as that will still undo if required. Loctite red is best avoided though unless you want the crack the blow torch out next cambelt change!
Bit of tipex on it all will show you if it starts to back out again too.

I'd get some new ones ordered to be safe, someone correct me if I'm wrong but the engine mount bolts are stretch bolts on these? - So in theory should really only be used once.

I'm no mechanic but they just look like regular bolts to me?

This happened to me after the cam belt change. Found it when I came into the pits at the last track day. I'm always popping the bonnet and checking now. Must remember the mark them tomorrow to keep and eye on them.

As Fox says not stretch bolts, I looked up the torque in the service manual and nothing about a stretch procedure.

Really appreciate this, all of you. I'll be keeping an eye on this from now on. It turned out, the only thing holding the engine on the left side was the upper mount...

I've left a message for the specialist who did it, hopefully he can shed some light on the situation. I'm not pointing fingers at all here, it could just be a total accident. We all make mistakes. Just glad I spotted it

When I had my cam belt done the guy that did it didn't tighten one of the bolts I called him and asked what it was his answer was "must have answered the phone ha ha" I have tried a couple of mechanics since that but he is far to good ha ha
