HELP - 197 F1 spring question

Can any of you guys shed some light on this, cars just failed the MOT on a cracked front spring, they ordered a new "CUP" spring (I think its blue & orange markings but not 100%) but it doesn't fit the top mount.

They think there must have been some mix up, ordered another one and exactly the same, doesn't fit top mount!!:worried:

What are the spring codes/colours for the F1, are they totally different to the CUP ones? He ordered them going off what colour was already on there. Even Renault specialist parts are saying it "should" fit...

I'm very confused!!!

They are definately blue and orange on the F1 mate. Either way any 197 spring would fit. The only thing I could see is that they have sent you a later 200 spring with the modified top mounts.

Ahh thanks Chris, they are sending a different spring that should arrive tomorrow but I'm getting a bit concerned now as to what spring will be going on!! (if it does fit top mount that is!).

If they've sent 2 blue & orange already and being told they "should" have fitted already..then wtf will fit?!!

No, not got any pics, gonna pop in there in about an hour anyway as need to be that way for something else.

What should I be asking/looking for?

If possible get a pic of the old spring, and one of the new springs they have sent, also if possible the part number. Pics of your top mounts may help also.

The part number you should need for an F1 spring is 8200718460

Cheers, sod's bloody law though, my phone (HTC Sensation) has just got for repair yesterday so now cameraphone!! I'll take part number anyway..thanks again!

I would replace both springs if I were you.

It's not strictly necessary, however yes I would do both sides personally.

My F1 had a spring last October (before I bought it) then the other went a few weeks after I bought it in April.

It's not a cheap job though, so if on a budget don't worry too much about getting the other one done.

Right, just got back..that have now ordered the correct part number (as mentioned above) BUT, I've just had a v/mail to say part is on back order and not sure when it will be avalible!!:worried: HELP!!!

I was thinking of getting some H&Rs anyway, would these be a better bet considering possible timescale of waiting for F1 spring?

If so, which is the best place to get some from sharpish?? Cheers

Cheers, for some reason the website wasn't working.

I tried Larkspeed, they had a set on the shelf so just ordered them instead, the 30/40 versions (156.00 plus 10.00 postage) so I'm hoping they'll fit, they are listed for CUP anyway. Should arrive Friday.

ETA: Just spoke with the local garage who's currently got the F1 on their ramp to advise them H&R's will be arriving friday, they seemed v skeptical that they'll fit tho. (maybe coz they've had so much hassle getting the wrong springs so far!!) They should do shouldn't they, its a 2007 F1?

Did you get the part numbers of the springs you have been sent already? They must have wither been for a later 200 or a completely different car mate.

The ones you have bought WILL fit (unless you have some non-standard top mount thing going off? which is very unlikely)

If they still complain they are the wrong parts then get them to show you why they don't fit.

Cheers, I hope so, although they're a Renault indy I don't think they've had much dealings with RS models, they've more or less told me the F1 spring will be totally different size (diameter) to the other 197 or CUP models.

It has made me think though, why haven't the springs they've ordered so far fitted, even if they were CUP or normal 197? I was just under the impression the F1 springs were just a few mm lower that was all. They've told me the diameter at the top was too small??>:nope:

Hmmm, either they've been sent the wrong springs so far or my cars got some large top mounts. We shall see tomorrow anyway..

They haven't been trying to put a rear spring on the front have they!?!

Or putting it upside down?! They really don't fill me with confidence!

ALL 197 springs would fit, they just had different ride heights and spring rates. The only ones that wouldn't would be later 200 springs (Late 2010 onwards I think)

This did cross my mind but thought, naaah, surely not!!

I might try and be around when they arrive and they try to fit them..

my local tuning garage fitted my H&R springs and they never even seen a 197 before, the only problem they came across was they didnt count on disconnecting the hub etc to get the shock out. but they did it quite easily. so there not that hard surely
