GoodYear Eagle F1

Hi Guys looking at getting loads of work done to my car.

I am getting creaking and sometime knocking from my passanger side front. One garage said its both ball joints and track rod end.

Another garage said its not ball joints but track rod end and something else

A local Renault dealer looked at it and said its steering rack and drive shaft and poss track rod end

Kwik fit just had a look and said its not any of those except slight play in steering rack which is common.

He went on to say about the offer where you buy 4 tyres and get huge discount on all brakes and tracking and stuff.

Does any one recommend Good Year Eagle F1?

I currently have conti contact sport 5's and always had them but dont last long at all.

I also need new front pads and discs. Any help :worried:.

I wouldn't let Kwik Fit go anywhere near the front brakes on these. They'll just make a complete mess. And I certainly wouldn't take their advice over that of two garages and a dealer... You have made me worried though as I have noticed a very small, quiet creak when starting to reverse, and an occasional knock in the steering...

I got all the bits for my front brakes for about £170, that's genuine Renault discs from eBay, Brembo pads and Mr Pink pins for the callipers. Shouldn't be too much labour for a good garage to fit those for you. You can save a bit more probably by getting the Brembo HC discs (identical to the Renault discs but not painted), but there was a supply issue when I was getting mine - don't know if this has changed.

As to the tyres, I'm running them and they're a pretty good, not as grippy as the CS5s I had but at least they don't melt after 6000 miles! Pretty good value, and whilst the sidewalls are a bit soft for track they're a godsend on normal roads as they help iron out potholes and make the ride a little more acceptable.

I am with @lost motel on this one bud, I certainly would not let Kwik fit near the brakes! I done my own as I am a mechanic but these brakes if the pins are seized are certainly not the easiest to work on so would get someone who knows exactly what they are doing fit the brakes. :thumbup1:

Very good tyres! Better than the conti's espically in the dry. Just as good in the wet too.

as for quickfit, stay away. They'll fit cheap **** discs and pads

The only thing id let kwik fit do to mine would be change tyres.

I have goodyear eagle f1s on mine and rate them.

I have the Eagle F1 on mine and really rate them. Not been on track, but very good on the road, tons of grip and reasonably priced too.

As for the knocking noises, have you been to an RS specialist for their opinion? As others have said, I wouldn't trust a Kwik Fit diagnosis either...

I went to Kwik fit as they offer the free inspection and it was knocking just as i was outside so i popped in. I need to take it to a Renault specialist but that will be Monday. only problems i have with the conti contact 5 is the fact they last about 10 mins then i need to change them again. Went to another garagr this aft they said its the steering rack arms! And would not touch my car as its lowered!

I have been there before when i had my alfa.

Might have to pop in again. Need to order a set of discs and pads.

Didnt realise the rear discs had the bearings all part of it which makes them a fortune! Haha

Thanks

Is there much difference between the normal and XL ones ? Looking to order some and not sure which to get, only about £1 difference. Seen them at £72.50 per tyre, is this a decent price ?

The XL stands for extra load iirc, so I should imagine the normal ones would be sufficient?? Someone may be able to clarify that though. Price-wise, I'd say that's pretty much on the button. I've not seen them cheaper than that

can you not do your brakes yourself??im far from being a mechanic but it is quite straight forward...mtec discs are quite decent...and cheaper than brembo..

Just chipping in with my experience of the Eagle F1's -

Had ContiSport 5's on when I bought the car (Feb), ran them for about 2 months until I got a puncture in 1 of my fronts and ended up replacing both front's with F1's.

Both seem to have fantastic wet and dry grip, the F1's seem a little more "comfortable" on the road, I don't feel like I notice the rough road surface quite as much as the Contis.

I've never really reached the limit of either tyre, and rate both very highly. I picked the F1's up for £69 per tyre from Tyreleader - DOT marked late 2014.

Thanks everyone, my next problem is I've just been out to the car to check the tyre size and noticed that the rears are speed rating 'R' they have got quite a lot of life left in them but if I've read correctly the recommended speed rating is 'W' for these cars.
I'm now stuck in a dilemma whether to change all 4 but I've only really budgeted for the front 2, is there any problem running rating 'W' on the front and 'R' on the back.. I just don't want to be forking out for 4 tyres if I can help it when the back 2 have plenty of tread.

it is recommended to run all 4 same tires preferably..but if you dont track your car, then i would be ok with having two different makes on..
when i bought mine the guy put 3 budget tires on and the 4th one was even worse..i can tell the diff by having ad08's on all 4 wheels..

Pav Thanks mate, There budget ones on mine they were all on when I bought it and pretty new so I've just waited till they were ready to be changed to put some decent ones on, I'll get the fronts done as they need doing ASAP then get some for the back next month.

Why not swap your front wheels to your back then put the f1s on the back then that way your only really going to be wearing the budget tyres dwn
