Ferodo Premier brake pads?...

Hi all,

I need to replace my front and rear brake pads soon and was going to go for Ferodo DS2500's for the fronts and standard OEM ones from Karl for the rears.

However I noticed Opie started stocking some Ferodo pads and saw the following for the fronts and rears with an extra 25% off:
- Fronts FERODO Premier Brake Pads FDB1667 http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-70607-ferodo-premier-brake-pads-reference-fdb1667-front-axle.aspx Work out at £38.70
- Rears FERODO Premier Brake Pads FDB1770 http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-72601-ferodo-premier-brake-pads-reference-fdb1770-rear-axle.aspx Work out at £18.91

My question is; are these simply replacements for OEM ones and has anyone used them to say whether they are slightly better or worse or the same? Because at that price it gives me money to get some braided lines and new fluid and save up for discs and DS2500's next year...

While Im on the subject of lines, I was thinking of getting these:
Yellow Renault Clio III 197 - 4 Line Kit http://www.helcarkits.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=363_982_999&products_id=13140

Has anyone fitted these and does anyone recommend a brake fluid to use with them? I will be keeping my standard discs as they have some use left in them for the mo

Many thanks in advance for your help

*EDIT* I will also replace the front discs as upon closer inspection they are lipped slightly. Are these ones from Ktec the same as standard OEM ones or are they slightly better?

- Front Discs Brembo High Carbon Front Brake Discs http://www.k-tecracing.com/show_product.asp?id=2855&appid=3

OR These while Opie have 25% off? Again the same question as the pads; are they the same/worse/better than the standard OEM brembo discs?
- FERODO Brake Discs Reference DDF1524 - Front Axle - Vented -Pair http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-70762-ferodo-brake-discs-reference-ddf1524-front-axle-vented.aspx

I'll see if I can find the mode l number for the lines I got but I made a topic about this a couple of weeks ago and I think there seems to be a bit of a mix of designs for the braided lines.

Some are better than others, see here http://www.clio197.net/forum/showthread.php?t=18519

Need to make sure you get the same design as Raptor from that thread, while the others can be ok they aren't ideal in the way they fit.

Cheers pal, if you could find out that would be greatly appreciated!

Anyone else on the pads?

Not on them yet but do have a pair sitting in the garage.

Just fitted some OMP pads to the rear, only 30 notes and I'm really impressed. They do press for the front, tempted to them too

Do you know how they're likely to perform compared to OEM pads? They just seem a steal at the moment for under £60 to do both the front and rears with the 25% off. But then I don't want to sacrifice quality...

not used them before Josh but heard good reports of a friend who has them on her Sirroco. I'm gonna give them a go, no harm for the price.

Definately no harm when you can do the whole lot for less than £60 at the mo  Cheers for the advice Fernandez  ..... Anyone else used these pads?

Not used those Pads before Josh but HEL Hoses are worth buying, especially if you like driving the Clio ''properly''.

As for fluid, I use Millers Oils Race Fluid 300+, ~£13/500Ml from Opie. Used it on a couple of cars now, including the Clio, faultless.

Does anyone know the lengths of the lines? And are they metric or imperial fittings?

Thinking of getting a price for the parts through goodridge, as single components, compared to a kit.

Only consider this is you've assembled brake lines before! I don't want people thinking its a good idea and then having brake failure!!!

Just put Hel lines on yesterday from camskill website, 2 week waiting time for them to be made, fit perfect. Also used new RBF 600 motul fluid and EBC redstuff, can't actually believe the difference it makes, so good. Highly recommend it as the brake dust is reduced a lot

Sounds like I will get my HEL lines ordered haha

Just need to decide on the pads now. Will probably go for the pads I linked as they seem ridiculously cheap, anyone else got any views on them?

I wouldn't bother getting the cheaper ones now if you're going to get DS2500 in a year anyway. Just get the DS2500 now IMO, save yourself some money and have better brakes!

That is kinda what I was thinking but then I wouldn't have the money at the mo for the lines and fluid- the reason being my insurance is due next month, need two new contis, and the cambelt in 2/3 months, so it's going to be very expensive. This is why I'm tempted by the cheaper pads just for the moment IF, and only if, they are near enough the same as OEM ones. Then the ds500's will go on next year with new discs

In that case I'd go for the DS2500 now and get the HEL lines next year, at least that way you're not throwing away a set of nearly new pads

Any ideas where they're cheapest at the mo? I will have a look when I get in

Just a note, when I changed the rear lines, the actual location of where they are is on the passenger side under the side skirts, 2 small pipes next to each other as the lines to the calliper are crimped and steel pipes. Just a heads up
