Coilover choice dilema...

Hi guys,

I'm choosing coilovers for my 200 and i'm stuck between the KW V1'S and the Spax RSX coilovers. I know there have been a few threads about both recently and usually i tend to go for the best reputable brands but Spax seem to offer a bit more for your money in this case in terms of adjustability etc.

KW V1'S are priced at roughly £800 and Spax £650, which would you go for in this price region?

I would opt for V3 or H&R but i'm a student so funds are limited

thanks in advance

Ollie

Tough one mate!! Sure spax will be fine, think kw would be better. U normally get what u pay for, kw's are very smooth but keep the car so flat and stable, I'd go for them.

How is kw v1 in comfort? NOw i have stock dampers and Eibach and its ok in the beggining but now in 90 000km its very hard...need to bay something new and i wont to know how are the kw v1?

^^^Again they will be very smooth mate! Not as crashy, very compliant! They use a softer spring than most and it works, still planted and flat but soaks bumps up better, remember stiffer isnt always better, especially on the road! My V3's are about halfway for road use and they really are fantastic! My mate told me it felt better than his new golf gt tdi!

For me KW is the only one id go for,
Roads use and odd track day go v1
More track use go v3
And if you want the ultimate setup with topmounts go clubsport.

So definitely v1 is better setup than stock bumbers+eibach? I use my car only on roads, never going on track, but if i change something i wont it to be better than now

I'd say v1's then mate! Def better than springs, they are good but coilovers are much smoother. The car as a whole feels much better!

Is your 200 one of the ones with the same top mounts as a 197 (Pre-June 2010) or a new revised one (Post-June 2010)?

If its the latter, this may limit your options I believe.

If KW's suggested settings for V3 are the same as their V1 settings then I'd say it rides slightly stiffer than standard shocks with eibachs, BUT the ride does feel better controlled.

Advantage with V3s is you can have them as soft as standard full fat suspension for day to day driving and stiffen them up in 5 minutes for the track/b road blast

I heard that the Bilstein B14 is better than KW V1...anyone have this B14 installed? Today i have spocke with specialist who works in http://www.racing-zone.hr/. And he tells me to bay better Bilstein B14 then Kw v1. Bilstein is better to drive and number one in the world. The quality and ride is better and the pice is the same....

They dont make them for the 197 mate, only the 2.0l 138. My mate has them on her 182, they are good, but bumpier then kw's.

Maybe they are mate, but you can't get em for the RS version at the mo. seems there descriptions are pretty unclear!

Today I received a response from the boss of the company in the link above. He received a response from Bilstein factory that they have this cit for my car... I sent them a car sticker on passenger side. This cit is for model till 3/2009. Probebly they have and for clio 200. And this cit is like they sad much more better then KW v1...

Ollie have you made up your mind then mate? What's the story behind the H&R coilovers' price? Why is the set more expensive than the KW V1? Is it supposed to be a better compromise between fixed damping and fully adjustable kits?
