Can't Decide...

Initially started looking at 172 cups..then 182...you get the picture.

I had settled for a white 197 idealy with the white speedlines.

Now my local dealer just phoned and he has a 200 in the spec I want coming in.

Only thing is...I don't know if I'd prefer the 197 or 200. Money isn't an issue here.

I prefer the front of the 197...but the 200 is newer.

Not really sure what else there is that could swing it and atm I'm 5050.

Anyone able to shed some light on what I should go for?

Whats the noticable differences?

:innocent: I tried the search but 197 and 200 are too short

The 200 is meant to be a better car, has several small upgrades from the 197.

However, suspension setups are different. 200 FF is softest, then 197 FF, then 197 cup and then 200 cup is the hardest.

'Rack is quicker on the 200 Cup too. It is the superior car if money isn't an option and a warranty is a godsend.

This isn't a 200 owner being a snot, it's just simple evolution of Renault making a car better as time goes by. Yeah, it looks like Jah Jah Binks, but it is a better car.

Meh don't believe everything Ure told like the steering is quicker etc etc main difference is the gearbox. Had a 200 gearbox in my 197 as a warranty replacement n it's better than the 197 for motorways, engine is the same f4r as 197 the front end looks ugly on 200 IMO but back end looks better than 197 with different diffuser. I'd go for the newest 1 thgh just for warranty tbh mate as things WILL go wrong.

T'is, says so in all their brochures, Cup chassis gets a quicker 'rack than the FF, which is also different to the previous 197s.

New ratios, new dual action dampers, new springs, revised rear beam, new cylinder head, new VVT (lower torque improved), new ECU and the independent steering axis lifted from the R26.R which the F-RS copied (the 197 may have had this?)

Good comparison from EVO on the 197 & 200 here... 2.2 secs faster round the track too.

Remember, it's not really a different car to the 197, just a 197 with a different nose, name and further down the evolution line. It's simple like the leap from 197 - 197 Cup, it should really have been called the 197 Cup+.

In a similar way, the 230 F1 Team Megane is a much better car than the 225. Same car, different name, evolution.

I get what you're saying about internet rumours though Woody, I wouldn't have believed it if it wasn't in print from Renault, they can't tell lies.

depends if u plan to keep it standard or not imo...and if i was to get a 200 it would have to be a rare colour

All very valid points there guys.

Warranty was one thing that was going to swing it as I'll be hitting the track .

I'm hoping to get a test drive at the weekend and I'll probably decide from that.

As for suspension..I suspect I'll get a set of KW's at some point for it.

200 will be white for sure.

And will be standard bar a few mods for the track.

And cheers for that link Mike, I'll have a look at that now.

True, you could get a 197 and make it an animal for 200 money.

Thats what I was also considdering. The 197 I've looked at still has some warranty on it too.

Argh I hate situations like this.

The 197 doesnt have recaros though which is kind of putting me off but if I was to get it, I'd just get a pair of buckets. hmmm

^^^ KW V3, cams, inlets, remap, zaust, panel filter, lighter wheels, winner!!!!

edit:maybe 4grand lol

Dont forget the dealers could end up being funny if you get a 200 with warranty, start modding it and then want to make a claim...

IMO - if you want to mod; 197. If you want more reliability 200

Of course, the above is taking styling and £££ out of the equation.

I wouldn't buy a 200 purely for the fact that xenons aren't available. The xenons on my 197 were brilliant and enabled me to drive at night like I did in the day.

As was said, you got to think about what you want. If you want to mod it for track use etc you are probs better getting a 197. I'd personally go for a new 200 but it's your decision.
Oh and don't get another white 200!! So common it hurts... alien green FTW!

i agree with xenon comment also the fact that they look porn at night lmao. a 200 is okay for warrenty etc but in my opinion id spend money on modding and see a standard 200 in ure rear veiw lol

Lots of valid ideas here.

197 Cup, sell anything of value, strip it, chassis mods, reliable engine mods. Enjoy.
Pros: Way faster and more capable weapon that'll last you years.
Cons: Mods no doubt worthless come sale time, harder to sell.

200 Cup, buy sticky tyres. Enjoy. Send it to the dealers when it breaks.
Pros: Easy, relatively risk free fun. Easy to sell on when bored.
Cons: Slower than above, more money upfront.
