Yep, it has been done though it's not easy and requires you to be very handy with a soldering iron and have the patience of a saint. If I get a chance I'll try to dig out the thread on it.
There's a bit of coverage over on CS.net for the 1*2 SMD conversions... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dotVYFoORUk is a pretty decent overview of the process for swapping the colours on a Mk2 if it's of any use to you for getting an idea of what's involved.
I've had it done mate £150
Looks awesome! The red and white is spot on!
Mate that looks awesome that's just what I want. Who did that for you?
And http://www.crazyleds.co.uk/ mate
But you'll have to give him a call first
Did they fit them for you?
I had to take all the dash and stuff apart and them he did everything else yeah mate
Ignore the trim, had those sent off at the same time to get sprayed
OMG!!! nuts......but does look cool!
Cheers mate will give them a call
That looks amazing. What would you need to try it yourself? Or is that a long shot?
Some big b0llocks and the money to buy whichever parts you inevitably f*ck up
Very steady hands, alot of patience, amazing at soldering, lots of soldering equipment, and the correct LEDs haha, and to have the time to do it all at once otherwise you'd be without everything for a while, you could still drive it I suppose but its a little illegal
How long did it take them to get it back to you? Yeah it would be illegal even if you put a temp dial in because the mileage is stored in the speedo not ecu
Oh right didnt know that! and 2 days I think if I remember correctly
May have to do this. Hard to get all the bits out?
fiddly but not too bad mate
That looks so sick! Loving it.
Just booking mine in now. if you can drive to them it takes them around 3 hours and is £149
