"Best" Specialist

I've had a search and found a few names mentioned more than others.

Fred at BTM, Mark Fish and Rentech, are there any others worth considering?

I know most people would recommend the person they use, but has anyone tried a few of them and found one "better" than another.

I don't mind travelling, I'm just after someone honest that knows these cars inside out.

Cheers

Have a nosy in the traders section, some decent offers around for our members

I've used KTEC, TDF and Mark Fish. KTEC are easily the cheapest and I'd use them for the more basic work. I say that because they did my cambelt service to a great standard but they didn't setup my coilovers well, different damping rates in different corners!

TDF really do know their stuff and I'd trust them to do anything on my car from mapping to suspension setup (track club) to turbo conversions.... They can do it!

Mark Fish has a lot of experience in car setup, he'll get the most from your coilovers, adjustable top mounts etc. he'll do it based on what feels best, not what the computer tells him is best. But, not the fastest workers which makes servicing etc expensive based on hourly rate.

I'll probably use Danny @ 519 for my next service. tdf are awesome but seem to have dropped off the map a bit, I assume after the fuss a few months back they're just sticking to their track projects and Motorsport stuff for the time being?

what exactly are you after?

As someone like BTM can do a decent service, but if you want an engine conversion then I would say K-tec or RST etc etc.

As always companies make mistakes from time to time, for instance TDF have made a well documented mess up (check cliosport.net) and totally ripped someone off. So personally I wouldnt use them.

But thats not to say that might be the case with you.

I would decide what you want doing, ring a handful of companies and see what they say or offer. Do they guestimate how long it will take, will they give you a firm price and time scale etc etc etc.

Sorry, I should have made myself clearer. It's just a service I'm after.

I understand what you mean that for certain things some specialists are better, but I'm basically looking for someone that can be trusted and won't try it on. The main thing though as well is someone that knows what they're doing, as so many "specialists" nowadays aren't that great at what they do, I've had issues with one famous specialist who proper ****ed my engine up on an older car I had a few years ago.

With my last car the specialist I would use was always reasonable with prices and never tried telling me things needed doing when they didn't.

Obviouslly I can call up and get some prices etc but it's always good to hear other peoples personal experiences etc

Out of curiosity I'd love a link to the thread on cliosport.net about tdf (not sure if you can link to another forum though), if not what do I search for in google? I tried tdf cliosport.net

Read BIGASH's project thread

You should just come to me to be honest

what page do i read from cos i aint reading 188 pages lol

I'm still searching the thread lol I read the first couple of pages and I'm skipping forward a few pages each tiome and skim reading a few posts until I catch a post that talks about issues.

Would probably be easier if someone just said on here what happened lol. I wonder if they done a "thorney motorsport" to his car.

found anything yet?

Page 96 has somethingish.

I've skipped quite a few pages though e.g going forward 5 pages at a time.

A few posts down he starts talking about more issues with his car and a couple of pages forward another specialist offers some help, I skipped forward a few more pages and this "new" specialist btm has helped him fix the mess tdf apparently done.

From what I've read there's been nothing obvious, just generally a poor build (but I've probably missed something obvious) the worst I've read (aside from the general **** build) is about the exhaust tdf done, apparently bodged some cheapo exhuast trims on a ktec exhaust and said it was something else.

Found a post in that thread that pretty much sums up the vibe I got

I suspect it was just a very rushed build where he has other priorities - another case of over-promising and under-delivering

Which is pretty crappy as I bet that guy paid a load of cash and got a rushed job with lots of corners cut, that's the thing when someone else works on your car you can never guarantee that they'll look after it properly or do the job right.
