best place to buy a clutch

the car is going in to have the synchros done to fix the dreaded crunch, was thinking about putting a new clutch in it at the same time, who does these at the best price?

Youll better do it in the same place you do the gear fix

yes i will get them to fit it, but its often cheaper if you supply the bits

Out of interest - what sort of price are you paying to get the synchros done? Presumably they're just opening up the box and swapping the 3rd or 4th gear synchro rings - or is there more to it than that?

thats exactly what they are doing.

300 quid plus parts and VAT, id expect 50 quid max for a pair of synchro rings

Doesn't sound too bad at all! Much cheaper than the £1000+ you normally hear whenever anyone mentions the words crunch and gearbox!

Might be worth letting them supply the kit if its only at a minimal premium.

The reason I say that is - if anything fails when the box goes back in then they have supplied and should warranty all the bits. If say the slave cylinder fails after a short period (which has happened recently to Chris_200cup) then i guess you will have to pay the labour to replace and sort a replacement item with your supplier. Sometimes the con's outweigh the pro's !!

As above let them sort it. Garages are sometimes reluctant to fit customer supplied parts (depends what it is obviously). That way there will be no issues.
