anyone know why the 200's making this noise?

its doing my head in, and its pretty much top of the to do list which seems to be getting ever longer. don't get me wrong, I've bought a cheap car with a fast engine, I get that. but its niggly things that are wearing me down.

so back to the point..

its makes this whining noise mid - high revs, its starting to concern me know, as the 4 renault dealers won't even look at it til the 1st (soonest I can get booked in so thats fair enough) but I'm not sure its safe to drive, a few lads in our workshops agreed with me, sounds like it could be aux/timing belt/tensioner issues. what do you make of it?

does it go off if you switch the air-con/climate off?

doesn't sound to dissimilar to mine - they will sound different when not under load

Can't say that it sounds any different to mine, they do sound a bit crap just revving at a stand still.

Basically, when it's driving, it sounds like a wind up car? Or a field full of grasshoppers ha? I'm not loosing power, my exhaust was blowing a bit but I've filled it with paste and put it back on and it seems to a lot quieter but the engine noise is still ****

but have you checked since its started making the noise that the oil levels correct, i wouldnt be going on the fact that its just been service to whether there oil in there

When my aux belt went it was more a metal on metal sound so not sure if it will be that. Sounded like there was two metal plates rubbing together is the only way I could describe it! Had it replaced at Renault under warranty no issues since

The exhaust on mine sounds like it is blowing on cold start, there has been a few threads on this and it seems very common although does differ slightly from car to car. Like you say, get it checked out if you are worried.

Found out the banging is the exhaust TDF put on isn't a perfect fit, it looks like it's sitting slightly to the right and it's banging off the 2 inner rings on the valence, I'll get that off tomorrow and see if I can level it out a bit and then the Renault people can tell me it's ok or not  should be right

Speak to Fred @ BTM-

He will more than likely tell you its the aux belt ( or cambelt ) idler / tensioner faulty-

IIRC there was a big thread on CS_
