Alternator Failure?

I had my 197 parked inside for a few weeks without starting/moving and
Now all of a sudden it is not charging.

I am getting the "Low Battery" warning on the dash with stop light & battery/ignition light.
It only reads 11 volts at battery when running.

I had the battery disconnected at one stage to fit 200 dash clocks but did revert
Back to the 197 clocks just I case but no joy.

I did a google search and a lot of people had alternators replaced only for the
Problem to come back a few weeks later.

Is there anything I should know about that causes this problem?

Yes, charged fully. Start car and it's ok for a minute then
After the "Oil Level Correct"signal I get the low battery fault.

At idle it's 11 odd and drops at high revs. I didn't check with lights on.

When it's running and I disconnect + from battery it stalls where as
Alternator should keep it running.

A car won't charge unless the dash light goes out so is there
Anything I don't know about controlling the dash light on these
Cars.
