There's too much choice my head is done in! I've been trying to choose a new TV but every time I look I get sick of trying to compare them all and give up. Yesterday I nearly just went and bought a random one from the ones amazon has on sale and I'd regret it if I found out I could have had a better one for the same price or cheaper similar one.

Is there anyone up on their TV specs who can recommend a decent telly to get please?

I'm looking for:
Around 55".
4K and I see HDR is the new thing to have.
Under £1000 (but ideally a fair bit under).
Not bothered about curved.
Not bothered about 3D.

After a quick look online, checking prices and reviews if it was me i'd be looking at either of these - they're both 55", both 4K HDR and Smart tv's.
I've not seen either of these in person so don't take my word for it, but taking everything in to account they look good. Curry's should have some in store if you want to go check them out in person before taking the plunge.

I would stick to the well known technology manufacturers out there if you're looking for the best quality:

Sony probably lead the way in terms of TV's, I had a curved 55" Samsung which is mega, but came at a price!

I'd recommend Hughes electrical as well, they gave me the best price and threw in a Sky deal as well (I was moving into the property so that fitted in well!)

The best 4K I can find for under £1000 would be the LG one posted below:

Alot of the TV's are advertise as "Ultra HD" which iirc isn't true 4K (correct me if I'm wrong!), just an upscaled version of HD, which you'll find alot of the Samsung/Sony/Panasonic TVs will advertise for under £1000!

Why do you specifically want 4K? There's not many times you'd actually use it surely?

Thanks for the suggestions so far, I'm edging towards doing what I've done for my last few TVs and just picking a random one out of a few that seem good. The more I seem to look at different models the more they all seem more or less the same spec wise. Or choose the one that looks the best to me in person.

Chris I was specifically looking at 4K as I am under the impression it is going to be the next big format like HD was so I was thinking I should at least try and future proof whatever I buy as best as I can. I might be wrong about this mind??

Get yourself on avforums - you will pick up an LG 55" OLED with 5 year warranty for less than a grand. Will knock the spots off any Sony or equivalent LCD/LED tv.

Although future proofing is a good thing, remember that the technology becomes vastly cheaper over time, or more expensive the more it's developed. I remember when HD TV's came out in the 2000's and a 32" LG at Currys was £1,100
I bought a TV a couple of Christmas' ago and went for the best all rounder as the 4K stuff was fairly new. I knew that buying one would be pointless, so spent £600 on a 48" LCD Samsung and it's still works a treat. It's all about the sound bar at the end of the day

Think we bought on offer when it was just under £500. Picture quality is sublime, sound comes from Harman Kardon speakers which are fantastic, Magic remote is pretty cool and easy to use. There's nothing I can fault on it.

Can't recommend it highly enough for the price, with your budget I'd be tempted to price up the next size up or the one after that.

ETA: Be careful with model numbers, not all of them come with the Harman Kardon speakers and magic remote. The model numbers are subtly different.

That is actually very good value...

No point in 4K for me, as I have nothing in 4K and my internet is not good enough to stream it!

I have a 55" UHD Samsung curved should be around your price point. Not quite 4k but close enough,

I didn't think much about curved before didn't want it but Mrs chose it, now every screen i my house is curved TV, PC etc i wouldn't go back to flat.

I should have updated this really, I ended up finding a 55" Samsung 4K one at richer sounds just before Christmas with a 6 year warranty for around £900 after a bit of haggling. Can't remember it's model number but I'm well impressed with it, it seemed way better picture wise (to me at least) when compared to a similar Sony or Panasonic one.

It was more than I wanted to spend but the quality jump over the price point I was looking at justified it (I think).
