had all the pads out today

cleaned and lubed etc

changed the brake fluid whilst at it

word of advice -

have the brakes stripped and cleaned once a year if you havent had them replaced !!!

i havent done much mileage on mine but the rear pads were well full of road dirt and salt etc....

also rotated the wheels and re-did the tyre pressures

And also be careful with brake fluid, as with time it catches water and loses his properties. A change of fluid once every two years would be perfect. Not too expensive and sure it makes the brakes feel better.

renault have it at fours years on the 197 according to the service book - but yeh fluid change good idea - done cars over the years when changing brake parts and bleed the brakes and the fluid came out black :001_rolleyes:

The problem with changing the brake fluid after 4 years is that the humidity in the brake fluid is very high, and with standard brake fluids it's ok, as they try to raise the wet boiling point to the maximum. But when you put some racing brake fluid, they are more prone to catch more water and loses their properties faster.

For example:

AP Racing 5.1 boiling points:

Dry: 275ºC
Wet: 184ºC

AP Racing PRF660 (race only) boiling points:

Dry: 320ºC
Wet: 199ºC

Thats the only point about changing brake fluid every 2 years
