Which One ?

Needing tyres for the 197 and having a look these are the tyres I have used and been happy with but is there a big jump from the PS4 to the PS5
Is there any difference between the Rainsport3 and the Rainsport5 ?

These are for standard driving with no track use.

What’s the thoughts ?

Michelin Pilot Sport 4 PS4 225/45 R17 91V TL

Michelin Pilot Sport 5 PS5 225/45 R17 (94Y) XL TL

Uniroyal Rain Sport 3 225/45 R17 91V FR TL

Uniroyal RainSport 5 225/45 R17 91Y FR TL

Hankook Ventus S1 evo3 K127 225/45 R17 94Y XL RPB TL

Hankook Ventus V12 evo2 K120 225/45 R17 94Y XL RPB TL

From that list my go-to performance tyre for road use would be the PS5. I'd even be happy with the PS4 if it was in-date and a bit cheaper.

I'd go for Michelins considering the other brands you've mentioned. Many people use PS4 or PS5 for road use here with a tendency to PS4 actually.

Interestingly Cup 2 are just slightly more expensive than PS4 with load index 94Y in your size over here. So maybe also worth a consideration? But be aware that they've a higher wear and presumably aren't that good in the rain as PS4/5. I'm currently running Cups in 215/40 R18 on mine and can't complain much. They're really good for road use but are missing a bit of performance on track compared to the Yoko AD08R I was running before.

Whichever has the best wet weather rating as dry weather road performance will be fine no matter which tyre you go for.

Secondary consideration is wear as someone was telling me PS4s lasted longer than the RS3s they had just replaced but that was on a FWD diesel “hot” hatch.

So I feel the wear on the PS4 was rather quick and I have used rainsport 3s on the Clio 182 and they where decent.

I have went for the RainSport 5s and managed to get them delivered for £280 in 225/45/17.

Having ran all four of what you’ve listed, stick with the Michelins.

The only thing Rainsports do better than the Pilot Sports, is driving in the snow.
The Pilot Sports (whether that be a 4 or 5) are just a better tyre.

My only issue with the Pilot Sports is that they wear quickly and the price, If I could have found them slightly cheaper I would have got them.
I know you pay for what you get and the uniroyal / hankook are more than enough for what I need so I bought the RainSport 5s

I by no means would have put a £39 tyre on my car but then again I cant justify spending £100/110 a tyre for what I do.

You’ll be in for a shock on longevity with the RS5’s. I guess we’ll discuss when the time comes around

Your statement about wear is contradictory to what I’ve found having ran all four of the stated tyres, and what’s widely discussed amongst the tyre reviewers online.
