Thinking of buying a clio

I'm thinking of buying a Clio 197 or 200 , but it trying to work out where the best value lies. I have a budget of say upto £7k and what it as a weekend toy and maybe try some track days.

I've just driven a 09 plate at a dealer but they and I don't know it it had a cup package ( it had red Brembos). It seemed good and to be frank with the B roads around Milton Keynes you would want it stiffer.

People helps on what I should be going for, I'm also thinking of a megane r26f1.

Also any reason why are can't look at the cars of sales section?

Hi mate..welcome to the site..the reason you cant view the for sale section is that it is accessible to the paid members only..you can become one by subscribing for a year which is £5..there are other options too..
i think that if you want it a bit stiffer and use it for a few track days every year, you may want to go for a standard 197/200 for a decent price and upgrade the suspension, brakes etc later with money, you had saved from not going for a cup version..

Hi m8, don't rush into your purchase see a few first, ultimately both the 197/200 have their quirks but both are very capable. Definitely look for service history and mileage over colour and spec. The service history on these cars are most important. Good luck with your search.

Welcome along!

Check out the buyers guide, got a lot of useful information like common issues to check for before buying.

Best of luck with the search!

Welcome to the forum. Friendly bunch here, so any questions just ask. Check out the Buyers Guide. Cup pack better in track, though some find it a tad stiff on the road. Both handle well. Cup has slightly quicker steering rack. Personal preference but I prefer cup chassis. Bit bumpy in the back if you regularly carry rear seat passengers though. Red callipers indicates cup pack, but a lot of folk repaint callipers so not definite. Cups sit slightly lower than non cups.

R26F1 is a lovely car too, but for me there's so much fun to be had wringing the neck of a naturally aspirated hot hatch like the Clio. It's a dying breed so enjoy it while you can!

As linked, the Buyers Guide covers the differences between Cup and Non, however another quick visual pointer is the colour markings on the springs - orange and blue indicate Cup suspension.

A lot of good advice here. Look at a few and you will soon see what a mint one looks like. As said look for loads of service history wether it's dealer/specialist/DIY. Try not to get hung up on colour choice. R27 comes with Recaros and Cup suspension as standard. Good luck.

Thanks , I would like one with recaros, but I'm not so bothered about cop suspension.

try to get one with recaros in as the suspension can be upgraded fairly easy but trying to get hold of some decent seconhand recaros is not..
