Steering wheel removal

Hi guys

Been removing the steering wheel of my 197 Clio to get it retrimmed. Unfotunately I think more came off than I bargained for.
Anybody have any idea how this is supposed to fit back in? One is shorter than the other and I guess these turn with the steering wheel so didn't want to risk them splitting when I turn.
Any help is much appreciated!

It damage mate, you need a new one.

Is it a lot of work to get a new one in?

Not too bad, you only need airbag squib and keep your indicator stalks.

Look for one on ebay.

I have noticed some second hand one's on ebay. I guess the only issue is making sure it is centered?

I've got this exact same issue, can anyone tell me what I did wrong? What this actually even is? I have the same tape sort of stuff coming out the back of my wheel and now clicking as it turns?

its the air bag "clock spring" - basically the physical connection between the steering wheel and electrical connections in the wheel - so the wheel can turn but maintain
connection to the air bag and switches on the wheel - does away with sliding connections for movement etc

if its now "broken" then it wont do much harm taking it somewhere...
