hubba hubba, the helix kits are like gold dust at the mo, i know paul ordered one and that was 8 weeks ago, good like mate

I had a massive debate with myself about where to take the car for fitting, its obviously a massive job and i didnt want anything going wrong. After all that money you expect it to be perfect and anything less wouldnt do. It was a choice between AmD, BTM, Ktec and 519 but after talking alot to all 4 i went for 519 as they were the most willing to discuss the project in depth and offered me their time with extensive advice and knowledge.

So it was dropped off saturday morning for the work:

Nice one ben, I'll be interested to see what difference the front decat makes.
It always looks like a bit of a rough spot for airflow.

Flywheel looks a nice bit of machining too!

Really am very impressed with 519 Automotive, i've been around the specialists in my time and am a professional mechanic myself so know what company is worth my money and which to avoid. Apparently its owned and run by a sole engineer, Daniel, and that makes for a very personal feeling. He took time to discuss the work before i left to ensure i was happy with everything and answered any questions i had ( We decided against the paddle clutch at the last minute! ).

And as promised he did the entire job in under a week so i could have it back in time for drag race weekend. Would recommend him to anyone after services to full engine builds. Thanks mate

So what can i say about the differential? Its hard to put it into words but this car will not understeer now! The backend actually breaks away before the front, on three occasions now i've gone 197 drifting lol  Launching it i still spin the wheels on nitrous but its more civilised to control off the line. But for pure cornering ability its the best mod i've ever fitted to any car.

The clutch is a little harsher on the bite with less feel and ability to slip, but no heavier. Makes pulling away interesting with the 197s poor throttle response lol, thank god i didnt go for the paddle clutch.

Engine mounts are a nice addition, not too stiff or harsh to the point of uncomfortability but makes lauching that little more precise.

Lighter flywheel. Hmm i got to admit this hasnt aided acceleration at all but the quaife diff was much heavier than the OEM item so i havent actually lost any transmission mass. Its most noticable when changing gears as the revs hardly drop a couple hundered making fast shifting much smoother. Result.

Manifold decat. With a fully decatted system the car has a horrid flatspot again which even the remap cannot smoothen out. Its barely louder than with the one decat unfortunately but the car definately has more torque across mid range and picks up much quicker. Feels less strangled at higher rpm too, although seems to feel a little flat at 7000 to 7500 rpm now.

I'll leave on a final note of saying before i was like 'oh dont want to use my car this weekend it might get caught in the rain or put too many miles on it'. Now it feels so much more focused as a drivers car i think 'cant wait to get home tonight and take it for a half hour spin with nowhere particular to go lol. Go Kart for the road FTW

I think that covers all my reviews, if anyone wants more info please let me know. Thanks.

Looks spot on that little load of goodies, where did you get the fly wheel?

Craig at APD, he's on the site. He is also the quickest supplier of Helix clutchs for Jonesy who seems to be struggling to get hold of one. Its all about the contacts

yes mate thats some serious stuff, the diff was the best addition to my car, does yours whine a bit?

Nope havent noticed any extra noise from it. My only complaint is the cars a little unsettled at low speed cornering around town and my god does it tug the wheel when going for it! Torque steer in the bucket loads!

yeah knock off the traction control that aids it a little bit. oh mine seems to whine when cornering hard or driving really fast.

Always have the ESP off mate, otherwise i find it kicks in before the diff does, so makes it useless!

Did you change the bearings?

the clutch release bearings are an essential change arent they? yeah I know mate the uprated clutches always bit harsh too. dont think there is anything wrong. I thought i'd forgot how to use my clutch pedal as every gear change no matter how gentle seemed to slap into place and jerk the car.

who did the gearbox rebuild? did you have to get it sent away like i did?

519 sent it to a gearbox specialist, from the sounds of it your backlash and mesh fitment wasnt adjusted properly between the crown wheel and pinion?

The only gripe i have is the box doesnt seem to self centre in neutral atm making it difficult to go down the gears accurately, but apparently the mechanism is external to the box so hopefully i can sort it

It sounds like you made some good choices mate, enjoy the mod's.

Was the de-cat worth it then? even with the flat spot you now have?

LOL, only my mum calls me Daniel and i have to be REALLY bad

Would you prefere danny or dan? Oh and BTW i though you said drifting was gay and your not a typical JDM fanboy? just made the connection with your username

And on that note... Dodge challenger FTW :tongueout:

yeah maybe something to look into thanks ben, ive changed the clutch twice in the clio (now on the 3rd clutch) now though well not me personally but its been done by someone lol i originally had a BD cover plate in and that was . . . . . rubbish so we changed to helix cerametalic.

i find i have to rev match and drive it faster than normal to make it smoother does that make sense? is that how you find it?
