Poorly 197

Took it to a garage today because engine managemant light came on last week. I was told last week by a friend with an OBD2 reader the codes were p0300 and p0313 which were random missfire codes. The garage plugged their OBD into her and said the codes now relate to brake sensor / switch's? And you can start the engine as soon as you get into the car without pressing the brake down! They then sent me away to see a specialist and didnt charge me!

Any clue's as to what this could be or has anyone had the same thing with their 197?

Thanks

Ian

p0300 is random misfire

p0313 is low fuel mis fire or something like that

as for the switches - could be a faulty brake light switch on the pedal - it should be pressed before the engine is allowed to start

are the brake lights on all the time?

Yea them codes are what I was told, I was also told they should almost clear themselfs but if not replace the fuel filter and plugs.....

The guy at the garage this morning tested the brake lights and they come on when the brakes are on and go off when not being used. He said it cant be the switch or the lights woulod either be on or off all the time?

You can start the car without pressing anything as soon as you get in it though!

the codes wont clear unless they are done via an obd2 system...

fuel filter is built in to the fuel pump and is not a service item until 144000miles

has the switch actually been looked at?

it may take more than one signal from it...

theres also a clutch sensor switch - so that could also be at fault!!!

I think Renault have changed codes tbh I had a fault saying immobiliser code wasn't present ... Turned out to be fuse which was in the control side of car lol wasn't immobiliser though

if they have then they are going against homologation regs.....

the electrical system on clio is can-bus so lots of systems interact with each other and the ecu's test the systems before start up so that can cause some strange faults to appear

Well since this light on the dash has come on Ive had some wierd faults......
1 - Boot wont unlock
2 - Rear windscreen wiper doesnt work
3 - Passenger side light out

???????????????????????

"Well since this light on the dash has come on Ive had some wierd faults......"
1 - Boot wont unlock - locks are known to get water in them and go faulty
2 - Rear windscreen wiper doesnt work - need to see if power is going to it - check both fuse boxes (cabin and under bonnet)
3 - Passenger side light out - could just be a bulb...

But all 3 went wrong the moment the light came on?

I'll go check the fuse now though.

I need to buy you a beer my friend :jase:

Just been out and gone through all fuses.
Found a 15amp one for the rear wiper which had blown, so I changed it.!

Would you believe it......
1- Boot unlocks / locks as it should
2- Rear wiper now works
3- Intermitent front wipers now working
& best of all *NO ENGINE MANAGEMENT LIGHT ON AND CAR NOW NEEDS BRAKE PEDDAL PRESSED TO START*

Mate please PM me your paypal address, you've saved me an absolute fortune and I would limke to buy you a beer or 2 :cloud9:

Nice work Si, the fuses are weird on the Clio aren't they, the number plate light is on the same fuse as the passenger side side lights!

Good call Mike. £5 well spent if you ask me.

Awesome.

You could have been chasing that for ages spending £80 a pop on a diagnostics mission!!

It's easy to forget the simple things when diagnosing faults!!

This is why I love forums - full of really helpful nice chaps!!
