One-touch windows not working

Hi all,

I have a bizarre issue where the windows on my 197 only open/close a bit at a time even if I hold the button. I've had this before once or twice and can reset it by closing the windows and holding the button for 10(?) seconds. This time, however, the issue is intermittent and resetting the one-touch system doesn't work.

This started happening after I upgraded my aftermarket speakers to some even better ones. The magnets on them are (about) the same size as the old ones, which have never given me any issues with the windows. There is no clearance issues and the speakers are almost identical, dimensions-wise, so I know it's not pushing against the window mechanism or anything.

There is a post on this forum where the OP mentions this exact issue and how he found that it was the magnets on the speakers (Original Post) but after doing some research and the fact that the magnets are about the same size, I'm not 100% convinced that the window motor would be affected by the magnetic fields of the speakers. It also happens more on the passenger side than the driver's. It commonly happens on the passenger side and on the driver's side every now and again.

I have some speaker adapters arriving to install again on the old speakers after I scavenged them for the new speakers and when they do arrive, I'll solder them onto the old ones and install them again, to see if it's better, but even if that does fix the problem, I'd ideally like to use the better speakers.

I appreciate the timing of the issue suggests the speakers are at fault, but in my experience, things break all the time at the wrong times :tearsofjoy:

Anyone had similar problems?

Any input appreciated

If the battery was disconnected for some time you might need to retrain the one touch electric windows. Not sure the right way round but involves putting the window all the way down and keep your finger on the down button for at least an extra 6 sec then all the way up and keep your finger on the up button for another min of 6 sec see if that helps, also clean the windows guide channels to reduce drag on the glass. Let us all know how this works out.

Put your old speakers back in, if the issues goes then the new speakers are the problem.
Will do, it's just I can't at the moment, as I'm still waiting for the speaker adapters to arrive, as I soldered the ones from the old speakers on, so a bit more work than a straight swap. It was purely to see if anyone had any input.

At the moment, my driver's window has been working reliably, but not the passenger side window...

Just bizarre
