New to 197

Hi, Im not new to Clios but to the 197 I am. Sold my last 182 3 years ago and bought a Saxo as I had so many issues with the 182. Alas issues with tthe Saxo so I scrapped that and decided to give up track days and concentrate on my bike (CB1000R) instead.

Too old now to get on and off the bike so sold it and bout a 2007 197 for the track. This time I am not messing with it to the extent I did with the 182's back in the day.

Hope to learn what basics I should consider for the 197 to use on track days - but not going silly this time (I promised ny wife ;-))

Haha we’ve all said that!

You probably know the basic stuff. Tyres and brakes first. No power to gain from the engine so just regular servicing.
Then I’d go coil overs and weight loss.
Then a bucket seat and harnesses.
Is that too far…?!

This time I'm going to try it bog standard and then see how I feel. But yes, brakes, tyres and suspension. And then Meglio lol....

I need to lose some kg's before thinking of losing weight on the car lol

Similar to me. Spent a fair few quid upgrading a 172 Phase 1 a while back, after 5 years moved to a 197 after writing it off at Brands Hatch.

Didnt fancy spending lots on the 197 replacement, even removed knackered KTEC coilovers and put standard suspension back on.

Remapped first off. Slightly less Torquey imo. but smoother delivery. Wouldnt bother next time. Racechip pedal box was better
Changed inlet manifolds to matched inlets (Didnt notice any difference- not worth it)
Decent tyres and powder coated wheels (AD08s for track and Eagle F1s for road) worth it
Mintex 1144 pads (Well worth it)
Half cage (After my last tumble where the half cage saved my life this was a must)
Luckily already had a Millteck (Mid res deleted) and sports cat fitted

Fitted a Corbeau drivers bucket seat and full 4 point harness (Well worth it)
Fitted cheap rear and forward car Cam

Overall, its much more planted, a bit slower even stripped out, and looks the best of the Clios imo
But it is fun on the roads, and not too bad on track

And I'm too old to go too quick nowadays ;-)

Happy days-

Thanks for that Chris...

I am going to try it on track standard as it is now and then decide. I have had 2 172's and 3 182's. The last 182 was superb but it becamse so unreliable that I ended up selling itf or peanuts as couldnt get to the bottom of non starting. Had it to a specialist and even they couldnt fix it.

So, Im hoping this 197 is more reliable.
